Sick of Morrow

Post by Frusciante »

Why the hell is this guy still playing every (Franking) game? He contributes to nothing! He's not producing offensively, he's not very solid defensively and he's not creating any energy whatsoever with his physicality on the fourth line. He actually just takes up time from players who would do so much better on that fourth line. You place Paajarvi, Porter or Cracknell on that line with Lappy and Reeves and you're gonna see a much needed improvement. He's just slow, taking stupid penalties without contributing at all.

I'd say one of the biggest reasons the Blues are playing so poorly these days (because they are, every point they've dropped the last few weeks they deserved to drop) is that we haven't got a single line who plays the game "the right way" as Hitch would describe it. With Steen in and out of the line-up, Oshie playing on the second line, we need some other line to make a mark on the game with their energy. That should be the 4th line. But you can't check and create havoc with only two players up front... Morrow should be scratched asap, I don't care if he has that veteran presence. Obviously that presence is not making much of a difference, so why keep him in?

Paajarvi should be playing every day. He's strong and talented. I think the reason Morrow was brought in in the first place was because Hitch wasn't impressed with AAA during camp but he's shown a lot in his playing time recently. At this point I think Morrow is only playing to justify his contract. I'd unload him for a draft pick and move on.

Morrow is either hiding an injury or just outright out of gas. I'll take the later.

Sick of him or not, his deal really isn't too much of a burden. It's nice to have his veteran experience, but he's definitely struggling at the bottom of the lineup. I agree that Paajarvi should be playing every day. In fact, I'm surprised Hitch hasn't gone and given Morrow a few days off here and there to keep him fresh. I'm okay keeping him through the playoff run, because if it comes down to it in April, when the injuries have hit, we'll need all the forwards we can get. And while someone like Cracknell definitely chips in physically, Morrow has played in big games, something that most of this roster lacks.

I wouldn't mind if we played Morrow sparingly, just to mix things up and play aggrivator, since he's really good at that and it's something that we've been short with lately. That sort of player can help turn the tide, but Morrow should absolutely not be an everyday player on the team.

I don't mind him being here either, he gives us depth and he's signed to a reasonable contract. I just don't think he should play as much as he does. To scratch him a couple of games might even do him some good. At his age he's not suited to play 82 games a season and still perform the way we want him too. But I definitely agree his presence will be felt in the playoffs. I think that was a big reason we signed him. I still however miss the CPR-line, I don't think the 4th line (regardless of who's played there) has brought us anywhere near what they brought last year.

WELCOME, Frusciante! Nice to have someone from Sweden since the Blues have some Swedish presence on the team. Totally agree on Morrow by the way. Surprised by his ice time, not so much by his contribution. Dude is like Tyson Nash... But old as dirt.

Also, I just wanted to give mad props to Sseagle and Viper for extending a warm welcome to a Rookie by not unleashing their deadly venom on his first post on this forum. Good job guys, whatever it is your therapist(s?) is (are?) doing, it's working.

Oh snap. True on all counts, SS. Should I take it to mean that you dropped shit like candy on poor Frusciante when his post count wasn't as far from zero?

I only attack people who deserve it. I'm not a monster....

But anyway, I'm not really sure what Morrow's role is and what they expect from him, because you're right, he doesn't exactly seem to contribute a ton on the ice, scoring or physicality-wise. I can't help but think that when he was brought in they expected a bit more offense out of him, because he was playing on higher lines for his previous teams (I think). I feel like Porter or Cracknell would actually be able to fill the same role and possibly do even better. It feels like Morrow is coasting at times, whereas Porter/Cracknell would be playing with more fire just to try and stay in the lineup.

I will say this about the CPR line, it's sort of a nice back up plan, should we need to go that way. It's why I love the depth of this team. If it ain't working, if someone goes down, we have our best line for the last chunk of the season last year sitting out there just ready to be put together. We're playing fine without them right now, but should we need that brutal physicality and energy, we've got it and don't have to make a trade to get it.

If we have "brutal physicality and energy" somewhere that isn't being used then that doesn't seem like a good thing.

Morrow is frustrating, but whether it is acceptable or not, we really will not know his worth until the playoffs roll around. Quite frankly, he just may be “coasting” until the real season begins, or his perhaps his assignment to the bottom six kind of limits/restricts his effectiveness. If he does not raise his game in the playoffs, the Blues’ depth will allow him to be easily replaced in the lineup. If he does raise his game and become a force for the playoffs, it would be worth dragging him through the season. Once again, right or wrong, it seems like that is how the Blues are approaching this.

I suspect once the playoffs role around, he should be a force on the powerplay, willing to hack, slash or stab his way to the front of the net and cause havoc. Right now he is probably trying to avoid blowing out his knee or shoulder during the regular season.
