I was thinking the same thing. And now headed into next year the Blues/Blackhawks are easily the top rivalries for both teams. Good stuff.

All of this shit will make for good memories...if the Blues win the series.

I disagree. Detroit and Vancouver are bigger rivalries for us. That's not a slam on the Blues but rather telling you that we hate the Red Wings and Canucks more.

Maybe if you have been a fan for the past 5 years compared to 15 years.

I've been a fan of the Blackhawks for 32 years. I am well versed in what a rivalry is - I am not saying St. Louis is not a rivalry for us but rather our rivalry with Vancouver and Detroit is stronger. If this was 1980s I would tell you the main rivalry is the Minnesota North Stars.

It seems not everyone feels that way.

Red Wings aren't even mentioned because they are no longer in the West. That rivalry has essentially been killed I think.

Doesn't matter that Red Wings aren't in our conference any more. We have a lot of history with them being original 6 team like us. And LOTS of bad blood between both teams. I'm a season ticket holder for the Hawks and have been for years so I live in the United Center and I can tell you firsthand that the Detroit rivalry is strong and always will be.

I understand that there is bad blood...and I'm well aware of the rivalry you guys have with Detroit.
But what I am saying is that don't be surprised if that rivalry diminishes over time due to the fact you'll only play them twice a year and you won't ever face them in the playoffs unless you meet in the finals.

I've always hated...I mean HATED the Blackhawks. I hated the Hawks during the Roenick, Larmer, Graham, Belfour days with a passion...so that was back in the late 80's when that started for me. I was at the game #4 sweep of the Hawks when Janney put the puck by Belfour in OT to clinch the series.
But when the Hawks were pretty bad and the Blues were doing well, the Hawks just didn't bring the fire and passion out of Blues fans as much. The Red Wings were the Blues #1 rival at that time because both clubs were battling for the division and met numerous times in the playoffs. The Blackhawk rivalry was smoldering in the background. But now the Blues and Hawks are both very good...the games mean something, the are fiercely competitive, it's physical and they are in a fierce playoff series right now...so the rivalry is officially back...not that it really ever went away, it was just on vacation.

You may not feel the Blues are the Hawks top rival...to each their own, but Blues fans RIGHT NOW, have the Blackhawks as enemy #1. And that will be the case next year and for years to come as well...especially after Seabrook's hit on Backes, Bickell's knee on knee on Sobotka, Quenneville's crotch grab, Keith's chirping of Backes and his slash happy fest that he has going on.

And the whole Vancouver thing...bah. Everyone hates Vancouver with a passion. They are everyone's rival.
Blues fans are pissed.
And I bet you dollars to donuts, should the Blues win this series, a lot more Blackhawk fans will consider the Blues a huge rival next season (but most probably do already).

So this is sort of the mu/ku debate here. For Chicago to view us as a hated rival, we would need to win some cups and beat them more often than we have in recent years. I sorry, I love our team, but we haven't done shit for a decade. Not shocked hawk fans don't have an intense hatred for our team yet.

Winning this series would help it a great deal, though, lol.

Exactly. Same way Wings fans always treated us. They had bigger things to worry about than the poor ol' Blues. We were the little brothers tagging along that could never hang with the big kids in their eyes. I totally get why a Hawks fan wouldn't view us #1 or even #2.

Uh we wouldn't need to win more than two.. How many has Chicago won since we had a team?

But that's just after the Backes hit - I doubt it was that way before the series started. To me it's another playoff series - an exciting one for sure and yes a rivalry but not at the top of my list. And that will be the case next year and for years to come as well...especially after Seabrook's hit on Backes, Bickell's knee on knee on Sobotka, Quenneville's crotch grab, Keith's chirping of Backes and his slash happy fest that he has going on. It depends - if Backes comes back in this series or even next series then I think the whole Backes incident will blow over cause the impact to the Blues would have been minimal. But if he's out the whole playoffs then yeah I can see Blues fans holding onto that for a long time. As for what Keith may or may not have said that happens on the ice all the time with both sides trash talking and yeah it gets personal. I remember Chelios with Detroit asking our guy Theo Fleury if he was out of rehab. Let's be fair - the trash talking happens on both sides.

And the whole Vancouver thing...bah. Everyone hates Vancouver with a passion. They are everyone's rival. I think what ticked us off was how they beat us round 1 back in 2011 game 7 and started celebrating on the ice like they had just won the cup. And they still had 3 more rounds to play. Then when they were up 3-games-2 over Boston they were discussing who they would pass the cup to first. So it was nice to see Boston win the last two and skate the cup all over the Vancouver building.
Blues fans are pissed.

Nope. The Hawks are our biggest rival. The Kings are up there as well because of the last two seasons. But Chicago is our #1. Why wouldn't they be? It's either been Detroit or Chicago for decades.
Vancouver is up there...so is San Jose.

And it doesn't matter if Backes plays tonight or is out for the playoffs...Blues fans will eventually want redemption for the hit. You can count on that. This won't "blow over". No way in hell. You obviously aren't that familiar with Blues fans.

That '95 Conference final between the Hawks and Wings was great! That was a real powerhouse Wings team!

Cprice, so you accept non Blues fans on here?

I said it before and I'll say it again: Even when Detroit was in the west, I still hated Chicago more. Now that Detroit is in the east, that much is solidified and I think any Blues fan would say the same.

It's possible that Reaves will want to fight Seabrook over the incident but your coach is not a confrontational guy so IF there is a game 6 and Seabrook comes back and you guys are up 3-2 in the series, do you think the Blues would want to settle it then with a scrap or wait til October? I don't know - I can see it going either way. If you have momentum you don't want to give it back which can happen with a fight. Will be interesting to see what happens IF this goes to a game 6.

Seabrook is too much of a puss to fight Reaves or even Backes.

If the series is firmly in the hands of the Blues (i.e. up 3 games to 2 and leading game 6 by 3 goals with 2 minutes left) then Reaver or Lappy will be more than willing, I'm sure, to put Seabrook into a coma. But more likely, it will be settled next season one way or the other.

That wouldn't happen cause your guy could face a suspension - the league doesn't like scores being settled at the end of a game/series. Sometimes the tougher guy is the one who knows when NOT to fight. But if it happens Seabrook can handle himself - players have rated him our best fighter. He doesn't fight often and never does a staged fight. But he's a tough guy.

If Seabrook is the best you got, it's a good thing fighting isn't relevant in the playoffs.

As panzy as your team is I would think they would be doing more ice dancing and less grinding. Really playing our game thus far in the series.
