In the post-mortem for the series, I think the 3 things they will point to as the biggest factors:
1) Seabrook's hit on Backes.
2) Miller being outplayed by Crawford
3) Blues' failure to make Hawks pay for penalities by scoring on the PP.
Some thoughts:
1) I thought Halak was fine and a goalie trade was not needed. Halak was money all season for you guys until that trade.
2) The numbers for Miller in the series showed he has played really well. You can't blame him for not stopping the one-on-one last night. Toews is our best in the shooutout and that was a shootout type of goal. It would be like Oshie having a breakway.
3) As for the 3 biggest factors you mentioned I have to point out that the the Seabrook hit on Backes LOST the game for the hawks and allowed you guys to come back on a PP goal with 6 seconds left and then win it. MIller being outplayed by Crawford? I would say the goalies have been even for the most part. Blues failure to score on the PP? We've sucked too on the PP - I think we are 2-for-23. Both teams play great defense so the PK of each is pretty strong.
Backes' key role is shutting down Toews and by extension the Hawks first line. He was very effective in games 1 and 2. Missed 3 and 4 and was clearly not his usual self last night.
Clearly, the past three games the Blues have missed Backes more than the Hawks missed Seabrook.

The difference is the Blues have been very competitive most every year. Cubs fans know they won't make the playoffs after the 1st month of the season! The Blues are definitely not the Cubs of hockey but more like the Astros of hockey.

Toasted Oates hit the nail on the head: "Are you not entertained?" I'm entertained as hell. That's a plus.
However, they need to go through this team no matter what. I'd rather see what they're made of now instead of getting to the CFs and flaming out there.
Game 6 in Chicago. That's all that matters. I sure hope it goes 7. That's all we can hope for.

Hahaha
Blues just need to finish
Make that big play. Oshie scored that amazing goal, but he also missed wide open opportunities.
The games are that close.
I just hope they take that next step. Don't want the Blues to be the Sharks.

This is beyond freaky! Wow! I had heard a little chatter on media up here about the Blues being shutdown in game 3 and losing 4-3 in game 4 two years in a row. And I heard that game 6 was a Blues 3-2 loss. But I had no idea that the same players were involved in the same outcomes or the number of shots was the same in game 3. That is beyond coincidental it is just weird. Are the media in St. Louis playing up this coincidence? fyi - this is what we do as Cubs fans - we always hear about the past and I do think it has an impact on players as they start hearing this stuff and it can get into their heads (and it doesn't help your players if the media is making those comparisons)
I have not heard anyone in the media mention it mainly because there is ZERO hockey coverage here on the weekend except for a minute or so on the local news! It's a JOKE! The last place this is is a hockey town!

I am talking about LOCAL hockey discussion over the weekend! This has been one of the greatest series in Blues HISTORY yet all you get is a 60 second blip saying who won or lost on TV or radio! I was shocked stations like 101.1 were talking NBA playoffs when we don't even have a team! I finally found a few minutes of Blues talk on 590am that was over before it started!
Every time a Cards player tweaks a pinky they have breaking news but the Blues are almost totally ignored over the weekend! It's DISGRACEFUL & total DISRESPECT to the greatest game on earth!

I don't live in St. Louis, so I can't speak to the TV coverage, but I listen to 101.1 during the work day and they've talked about the Blues quite a bit the last few weeks. In fact, most of the shows that I listen to on there lead off with the Blues lately.
