Halak is done. Bring on Allen or Bishop.

We can't possibly be the only ones seeing this.

I thought a lot around the organization were actually quite vocal in the offseason about his need to pick up his game, he clearly hasn't done that and I don't want to hear "it's still so early" when we are going to be fretting over 1 or 2 points making the difference between teams making the playoffs or not. These points count just the same as the points we acquire in February and March.

I completely agree. Especially after hearing on NHL Radio today how tight the competition between Bishop and Elliott was in camp while Halak struggled throughout. Halak needs to sit or have a mysterious season ending hand injury.

This is the eighth time the St. Louis Cardinals have reached the World Series since the Blues joined the NHL in the 1967-68 season. The Blues won fewer than half their games in all of those seasons, except in 2004-05 when the NHL was shut down by a lockout.

Halak played rather well last night. The only goal you can argue he should have stopped was the breakaway 5-hole goal...but that was still a breakaway...his defense let him down there.
Sure, it would be great to have him stand on his head and cover up his teammates mistakes (which he did quite a bit of last night), but there were breakdowns and/or poor play in front of him that were the reason all 4 goals were scored. Blaming Halak is the lazy way to breakdown last night's game in my opinion.
He made numerous great saves last night, including a great save on Getzlaf who was left alone in front.

What people should be upset about:
- Two Blues players broke their f'ing sticks on the same PK at the same time...which led to a goal against. Just bad luck, but still.

- Nikitin for jumping in front of that point shot and not blocking it and instead tipping it over Halak's shoulder and in the net. Get the F out of the way, or block it...one or the other. That's at least the 2nd time he's done that this year where it cost us a goal.

- Three of the goals against were PP goals (one happened just after the penalty expired...so same thing)...and the 4th was a breakaway.

- Petro looked like ass last night as well...for some reason.

I can;t really speak for everyone else, but my disapproval for Halak is cumulative. Not simply about last night,

The team themselves have voiced disappointment with his physical conditioning and mental capability last year, tried mightily to bring in someone to push him, watched him flounder in the preseason, and after some shaky play we should feel warm and fuzzy because he wasn't our biggest problem last night.

Even if you think he made some quality saves, what about his complete in ability to control or even locate the puck after initial contact?

When is he going to stand on his head an bail us out for a change the way Eliot did Saturday night?

I really don't mean this as a 'pile on Halak', just explaining my personal overall disappointment with him.

Before the season I thought we were a #4 or #5 playoff team that would either settle for 7th or scrape for 8th because of weak goal tending (or at least not good goal tending), and I have seen no reason to rethink that stance.

He's played 4 games.
I don't count preseason...because it's the preseason.
And last season he was ok. He could have been better, but he was good enough for the Blues to make the playoffs...but they had other issues with injuries and first half struggles.

I'm not a bridge jumper 4 games into the season.

Sorry.

As I stated before, I got on the bridge last year....I'm waiting for him to give me a reason to get back off it.

I'm not saying these four games made me think he sucks....I already knew he did. I'm waiting for him to convince me otherwise.

You and I have different definitions of the word "sucks". His numbers last year were decent.

I'm not saying those numbers didn't need to be a little better, but he certainly didn't suck last year. His GAA was better than Vokoun, Kipper, Howard, Ward, & Miller. Plus, it was his first year as a #1 guy and half of the team in front of him was on the IR for half the season.

Now...overall, he has obviously sucked this year, aside from his last game where he was pretty good...so in 3 of the 4 games, he has struggled. I'm pissed with his play and he needs to be better...but again...4 games.

Dude, I totally have no problem with your stance at all.

My lack of confidence in him comes from my personal evaluation of watching him play. He makes ME very uncomfortable and I don't trust him.

If you do (feel comfortable), I'm not going to try to change your mind. You are right, his overall numbers aren't terrible. I just think he gives up too many softies at critical times, he struggles locating the puck after saves, and he doesn't stand on his head and steel games....that's my issues.

His numbers were sufficient, and that's why I think we can still make the playoffs with him. It's also why I thing we could be a much higher seed if he elevates his play.

As I noted, he'g going to be the guy....I just want to explore ways to light a fire under his azz. He's proven his capable of better, but how do you get it our of him on a consistent basis.

I agree. He needs to be better if we're going to do more than just make the playoffs. (at this point, he needs to be a lot better for us just to get in)
He's shown in the past he can be that guy, he just needs to do it more consistently.

I'm not comfortable with him at all right now. Few people are. He needs to be much better than he has been.
I'm just trying to be patient with him and remain optimistic because the thinking when we got him was that he's going to be "the guy" for us. We can't abandon that stance yet. Way too early for that stuff. I'm confident he'll improve his game...I'm less confident we can stay healthy. The injuries are getting stupid again.
