Goaltending steals playoff games, not one 40-goal scorer. The Blues have the goalies capable of doing that as long as Elliott doesn't slip, which it doesn't look like will happen. Don't trade either of them. If a goalie gets traded, it should be Bishop or Allen.

I can't see the Leafs getting a goalie. All the talk here is how they need some physical scoring forwards and the only trade bait they have are defenseman, namely Luke Schenn.

I would say both could steal playoff games...and have.

I don't disagree with you. I don't want to see either goalie go in a trade...UNLESS, we get a legit sniper that we can count on for a goal every other game or so.
I don't think we'd get that kind of a player for Elliott or Halak...actually, I know we can't. We'd have to offer a package of players & picks.

I'm not against trying to make the team better, but you have to be real careful when it comes to moving goaltenders. Just ask Montreal.

You also have to keep in mind that as we get closer to the trade deadline, the other top teams in the West may be making moves to make themselves better. So, if the Blues stand pat and don't make any moves, they may look like they are in good shape now, but that might not be as much the case if Detroit, Chicago & Vancouver each make a move or two to improve their weaknesses.

If you told me that our chances of winning a cup this year or next year would possibly improve by 50% if we traded Elliott at the deadline and acquired a sniper, then yes, I'd do it. It's all about who we would get in return and what else besides Elliott we'd have to give up to get him.

I was thinking on the way home today, the spectacular sequence of events that led to where we are now. Unless the plan was, all along, to bring in Hitchcock regardless, let's assume the team got off to a better start, say a 10-3 start, meaning Halak was playing strong at the beginning of the season and so was the team in front of him, Elliott wouldn't have gotten nearly as much time as he has. Not playing as often, he may have tailed off statistically, maybe been a serviceable goalie but not the all star he's proven to be. Payne would still be coach but you have to assume they wouldn't be playing to the level they are now, maybe hanging onto a 7 or 8 spot at the moment which could go either way. Instead, Halak blows chunks at the beginning of the season, Elliott keeps the team respectable while playing more than he was expected to, Payne out, Hitchcock in, and here we are. Halak's lousy play got us a better coach (with all respect to Payne, Hitchcock is a better coach) while Elliott's stellar play kept it from getting out of hand early. Now they're both doing just fine and the team is soaring.

With the parts that are expected to come in soon... Tarasenko next season, Schwartz in a couple years, Cole and Fairchild getting regular ice time when Jackman and Cola are gone, I wouldn't be even the smallest bit interested in trading Elliott or Halak. If Elliott walks at the end of the season for nothing, so be it. With a young defense who will be getting younger and better, and the potential for some offensive additions from in-house, they could put Bishop or Allen in there to back-up Halak and they'd put up probably nearly the same numbers as Elliott. When you only give up 20-25 shots a game, you tend to win... a lot.

Neither will be moved this year. It's simple, you can never have enough goaltending.

This appears to be the source of the stupid:

The very premise is incorrect, his stock is most assuredly not low.

I'm actually not opposed to trading a goalie, even Halak (he's hot, not elite; hot could end at any second), but the return needs to be greater than what Toronto would give up.

Make him the centerpiece of a Bobby Ryan deal and I'm there; maybe Halak and Cole or something, but I'm not dealing him for Schenn or a B-prospect and that's the kind of crap that the Leafs and their fans think they are entitled to by right as hockey royalty.
[Aode] 10:34 pm: well, if I find cornhole anywhere, I'll try it and let you know

It could always be worse, I could be a Cubs fan. (But please, if you could spare me the parallels between the respective organizations, I'd really appreciate it).

I think that's a great idea.....I would just assume that Elliot and his agent know that the odds are very high that he's playing over his head and he's going to look to maximize the length of this deal. I don't think you'll get him to sign a 2 year, 4 million dollar deal.
