Yeah, because he's made a whole bunch of money off of this operation.
His operation was in red almost every year.
My guess is that he couldn't secure an investor that would allow him to remain the 'face' of the franchise. Once he looked and looked, he did what was best for the franchise and sold to someone who had the financial means to pick up where he left off.

The article on STLToday mentions that he'll remain until they find a buyer and that 100% of the team is still for sale.

Yeah, I posted that before that came out. Not a surprise at all. First report I heard was that he sold the team. But turns out he was selling. Still...as long as the team stays in St. Louis, I just hope it goes to a dedicated owner.

I agree - unless the rumor mill has them moving here to Portland, OR.

(not I believe the team would actually move)

The team is better today than it was when he bought it. There are plenty of butts in the seats. Ticket prices are still very good by league standards.
I know we don't have a high payroll, but I am not sure there have been too many players worth plunking down the cash for in light of where the team is in its development.
From what I understand is he's getting out of the way so the team (and the fans) can have a stable owner and can continue to build the payroll and on ice product.
None of that sounds bad to me.

Tower could cash in by selling this team to Canada.
