24-25 Post Mortem

First, I spent a fair amount of time on the Discord channel during game 7 and what I learned real fast is that some of the people there are obviously very young and mildly clueless. When someone is asking during a playoff game who'd be up in the shootout if it's still tied after OT I have to deeply question that person. When someone says Montgomery needs to be fired I also have to question that person. Discord may be good for the young'uns but there's really no substitute for this place when it was in its heyday. If Curt won't keep it running and promote it maybe those of us who hung around should do it instead.

Second, I'm not upset or surprised by the 1st round exit. It would have been fun to move on and play Dallas but at the end of the day this team is right on schedule. They weren't supposed to win the Cup this year, they wouldn't have won the Cup this year and going deeper into the playoffs would have only weakened their draft position in an already weak draft. Kudos to the boys for taking Winnipeg to the brink and you have to lose to learn how to win so we really couldn't have asked for a better learning opportunity than blowing it with 1.6 seconds left in the 3rd. Get Tucks and Holloway back healthy next year and let's go.

Draft priorities should be RD and goal. I don't know how comfortable I am with Jiricek being the top rated RD in the organization when it seems like the guy is injured every time the wind blows. I'd be ok with trading down from 19 to stock up a little more draft capital for upcoming years and if they can pick Blake Fiddler in the 1st round that's a good, safe selection. We don't need to draft forwards--we're deep enough there for a long enough time. Enough kids in the system should be able to fill the spots and the top 9 is set for a long time as it is. Build a good, young and offensively somewhat productive 4th line.

Hofer, short term deal. Faksa, one year deal tops, Suter if he wants to keep playing it can be somewhere else.

More later, time to get back to work.
