Orszagh is signed through this season and is a UFA then. Don't know if he figures into the Blues plan at all, think he just started skating recently if I remember right.bamabluesfan wrote: BTW do we still have the rights to Vladimir Orszagh? If so where does he fit in next year?

Any questions as to why?

A year ago, Edmonton needed to win its final game just to qualify for the eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot. The Oilers caught fire and didn't slow down until Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, when they lost to champion Carolina.
Edmonton had 95 points, or 49 more than the Blues have right now. With 34 games remaining, the Blues have 68 potential points still on the table -- and virtually no wiggle room for losing streaks or prolonged slumps.

13-2-2 in their last 17.
Only two regulation losses in their last 19 games (13-2-4)...
Beaten teams like Detroit, Buffalo, @ New Jersey, @ Anaheim, @ San Jose, gotten points in three of four games vs. Nashville, beat Colorado on back to back nights...
Crazy, crazy stuff.
Moving up the ladder too. Only three points out of 9th place.
Screw rebuilding and slowly getting better over a half dozen years...all we had to do was change coaches.

The number is so slow because it still reflects the early games this year, the last 3 home games all drew at least 16,000 I think...ksbluesfan wrote:Unfortunately for the Blues, they're only averaging 11,610 this season.

That's the worst in the league.

It wasn't that long ago that a Friday night game against the Red Wings was a sellout. They should be averaging at least 17,000 per game. If the game tonight against the Wild draws 12,000, I'll be surprised.FloPoErich wrote:The number is so slow because it still reflects the early games this year, the last 3 home games all drew at least 16,000 I think...ksbluesfan wrote:Unfortunately for the Blues, they're only averaging 11,610 this season.

If the fans are paying attention as to what this game means, they will be there.
Usually Minnesota isn't a big draw at all...but this game is the biggest game the Blues have had in the past two years.
FYI, Ron Jacober on KMOX this morning mentioned that this game is "a huge game for the Blues". So the word is getting out for those who might not realize it.
We'll see how many show up.

Not a good number.
But like I said...the Wild never draw well here. Who wants to see them play anyway? Nobody.
But you'd think more fans would have come out for the most important game of the season.
Oh well.

23-9 the rest of the way?

It depends on whether or not they take each loss as motivation to play harder or to just pack it in. Every game will get harder and harder, regardless of the opponent.
I think if you're JD you start sizing up the offers. This one's looking more and more like a long shot. This last month has been a lot of fun, but I don't know if they've got enough left.

I agree, and if we do go after a trade dump at the deadline, we should be looking for more quality- not this "Sillinger for Shishkanov" BS...ViPeRx007 wrote:23-9 the rest of the way?

if we lose 3-4 more games before the deadline- pack it in.
If we do trade some guys...I want a great player, or a guy with great potential in return.
Like Aode said, none of this "Sillinger for Shishkanov" BS.

Surely they know that they are in a fantastic position to really make this team better if they're smart about the trades they make. I don't foresee any desperation, lackluster type deals coming up (like the one mentioned above). The Blues are in the drivers seat, teams are coming to them. I'm expecting good things. They've got a lot of very good bargaining chips to put out there.cprice12 wrote:If we do trade some guys...I want a great player, or a guy with great potential in return.

It's also different this time around because of who we've got behind the scenes. I feel more confident with JD overlooking things than when it was Laurie, that's for sure.

This team is not making the playoffs. Ultimately, "ticking off" a handful of ignorant fans for this season, when the payoff is actually building a team should be the least of their concern.
There needs to be a firesale....even if they are in 8th place @ the deadline. They're not going to make the playoffs, and even if they COULD squeak in, they would have zero chance of winning the cup.
It's not a victory to make the playoffs this year. They did that for almost 3 consecutive decades without any playoff success. Making the playoffs this season is bad for the franchise.
Keep on keeping the faith if you'd like, but realize that NOT trading away Guerin, Tkachuk, Brewer, Legace, Drake, Cajanek, and other UFAs to be would be simply short sighted and downright ignorant.
I see you're fighting the good fight over here BBZ, but the delusion runs rampant on this board too. Sad, you'd think they'd know better.

Building for the future by trading the UFA's and spare parts > two home playoff games.

Welcome to LGB ... now that the formalities are out the way, what you just said is hinting on you being a tool. I don't think there would be too many people here who would argue that offloading some UFA's come the trade deadline would be a bad thing. But I think you would find people here arguing that not making the playoffs would be a good thing, the best thing right now for this team would be to win some games make the 8 and go from there. Win or lose in the playoffs is not really relevant as the fact that the team gets there will put more bums on seats which is one of the things this franchise needs right now. Player building for the future is one thing, but it's no good if no one turns up while you're doing that player building.Celtic wrote:I see you're fighting the good fight over here BBZ, but the delusion runs rampant on this board too.
