What if the BLUES made Chelios an offer!?!?
Apparently, the Wings won't offer Chris Chelios anything to play another year in "Hockey Town"...
I ask why would or why should the BLUES consider picking up Chris Chelios?

Is this some kind of a joke? Or perhaps a drunken post?

Re: What if the BLUES made Chelios an offer!?!?
If he's still in great shape, despite the rivalry between us and his past 2 teams, I'd take him. The guy's gonna be a Hall of famer someday and our D could use the mentor. Plus he would sign for practically nothing. I don't see why you would pass on this guy with his experience. This is about our team's improvement right?

It's not everyday you have the chance to add one of the Original Six players to your team.
That said - pass.

I'm dismissing this as a suggestion made under the influence of LSD.

There are few players in the history of the NHL who have made a career out of being a pain in the Blues' @$$ more than Chris Chelios. The hatred runs deep, and has for a long time.
Pass, for completely subjective reasons.
*edit: on second thought, sign him for cheap and make him a healthy scratch for 82 games.

I'd rather sign someone younger, like Gordie Howe or Toe Blake.
*I tend to only post on this site when I'm intoxicated.

shame on you for considering that. Hell lets just put him on the 2010 olympic team while we are thinking about it

I hear Bobby Orr or Ray Bourque are available. I still think they are younger than him.

Re: What if the BLUES made Chelios an offer!?!?
Ignoring my emotional judgement side that curses at the very thought of it, let's try to look at this objectively.
BEST CASE SCENARIO- say we sign him to a one year deal- he somehow comes into camp in great shape for his age. He somehow cracks the top 6 dmen. Okay, now what? If you're talking "mentors" I believe that's what Jay McKee and to a lesser degree Jackman and Brewer or for. Even Colaiacovo has been around a while. It's not like we got 6 rookies suiting up out there. Another thing- even if he DID outperform another player on the d line- I say there' no way he's THAT much better- so is it worth it taking the spot from a younger guy who will be around for awhile as opposed to a guy that- at BEST- could only contribute this year? No. Also- as demonstrated here- the fans would be pissed and blown away if we signed this guy. There's no reason to do that given his "skill level" at this point in his career. Think Brad May being signed by the Avs.
Pass on him. Any potential benefit to be gained from his being on this team is far out-weighed by potential negatives.

I remember when we got Osgood. People hated that too...until he started playing well. HYPOTHETICALLY speaking, IF Chelios came here and started playing great from day one, All these haters would be like "Well......................(crickets chirping)" In fact it would be hilarious to have this guy on the Blues, playing well/contributing to wins/instructing our young D (him and MacInnis awesome!) and STILL have people putting old grudges before the better of the team.
