NHL got more fans out of this.
Exactly right. It almost doesn't matter what you think about John Scott, truly. He was representative of the "little guy," in my mind, and I think that's why this story ultimately ended up being a feel-good one.

And your reaction is not in the minority at all. Across the board more people have said they have enjoyed this All-Star game more than any other because the Scott situation brought some intrigue and it was a feel good story. You wanted to root for him. John freakin' Scott.

I hope the NHL learned a little bit about their fans this last weekend.
I'm not going to hold my breath. The NHL might not be as corrupt as the NFL, but it's equally apathetic to the wants of its fanbase.

And next year, without John Scott, the NHL allstar game will return to being a completely meaningless bore that I'll skip in favor of doing some laundry or napping.

I actually thought the 1-0 final game of the 3 on 3 was pretty fantastic.
The saves made were unreal. The players really wanted to win...but not in an NHL kind of way, more like an incidental-contact-only men's league way. Which was fine. I wouldn't expect guys to be checking...I wouldn't want that with the risk of injury and all.

But I quite enjoyed it. And John Scott wasn't really a factor in that game. But I did enjoy his play in the previous game. Good stuff.

Not surprised at him getting MVP. Least he deserves after what he was put through.

3 on 3 isn't real hockey though.

The ASG is "real sports"?

The All-Star game hasn't been "real hockey" in a long time.
At least this year it was fun to watch.

Eh - the 2 prelim games were okay but still played very relaxed and without any intensity. The final 1-0 game was both teams just running the clock out. I wish the league would just keep the skills competition and eliminate the game

Be honest: it wasn't that fun. I just can't handle hockey with no hitting or defense and where goalies are totally hung out to dry.

Be honest? Why would I not be honest?
I thought the goaltending was fantastic. That alone made it entertaining.

Oh I just meant they learned more about the fans, not that they'd actually do anything to make the fan experience better with this new found knowledge. Two totally separate things. :P

What would eliminating the game solve? I enjoyed it this year and hope they keep it as is. If you don't like it, just don't watch it. No reason to take it away from the people that do enjoy it.
