This game was lost on special teams.
Penalty kill was bad, giving up 2 ppg...
... but holy (Frank) is the powerplay worse - Zero for four sucks hard, but giving up a shorty makes it tragic.
We won this game 2-1 even strength and lost 3-0 on special teams.

I'm extremely sorry for this comparison ahead of time but honestly reminds me a bit of Patrick Kane. Guy is smaller, has fantastic hands, and when he has some space in front of the d-man the defenseman really only has two choices: rush the guy to put a body on him and risk getting beat or respect his hands and give him some space but look to cut down his angles. He made some fantastic plays tonight with his hands- amazing passes, setting guys up, etc and yea- he had some good set ups but he was getting rushed tonight pretty good when he had the puck but that also creates space for other players so its a two way streettheboat wrote:Trying not to be all over Perron's jock but, does he not create more room for himself and others around him? As terrible as tonights game was I can at least sleep well believing DP will get the offense on track ( which means 2.2 gpg for the blues).

And to give credit where credit is due, the Hawks did a great job on the PK tonight. They had great pressure all night long and I think there was one time Steen was coming out with the puck out of his own net looking for a d-man to get the puck to and he had trouble doing THAT.not_a_wings_fan wrote:This game was lost on special teams.

We couldn't set up, didn't have our passes on target tonight as we needed them to set up the power-play in spite of the pressure getting put on, so yea: didn't get many chances on the PP and the ones we got were either blocked by the Hawks or we miss the net (Berglund & Stewart just to name two)
edit: I WILL add though that both times on the power-play where we had a face-off in the Hawks, we won both of those face-offs clean straight to the Blues d-man so that was very encouraging to see. Don't know off-hand who the 2 centers were but great job nonetheless

In all seriousness though, this rivalry is going to be back very soon. As sad as it is to say, on the Hawks feed, they cut to the crowd and there were (what looked like on tv) hundreds of Hawks fans there cheering after the game. I looked at my girlfriend and we both shook our heads at the same time...95% of these douches had no idea who the Hawks were 6 years ago. So I apologize for those of you who were at the game for having to put up with those people.

Only reason I'm mad about it is because I remember going to hostile games in STL in the early 2000's, and I was the only Hawks fan in sight.

All the (Franking) jerseys worn tonight by Hawks fans were Towes, Kane, and Sharp...I only seen one Roenick jersey...its sad I can name more older players from that team than those fans could.Ruutu15 wrote:ProngerBlues44 wrote:Suck it, dudeRuutu15 wrote:Don't be sorry, bro! Re: GDT #26: 12/3/11 > Blues vs Blackhawks > 7:00PM > FSMW/KMOX
I am EXTREMELY disappointed at the number of Hawks fans that were there last night. I was in the end the Hawks shot twice and Blues fans were outnumbered. There were entire rows and almost entire sections full of Hawks fans. Yes, I know I took a Hawks fan with me, but it was one guy. He was surrounded by Blues fans in our row, at least. And it was his first game. It's not like we brought and entire convoy of Hawks fans. That was the largest number of Hawks/opposing fans I've seen at a Blues game.
I was wary going in seeing as this was the first game I had been to since the home opener that the Blues would lay a stinker and they did. Elliott gives up 4 goals after not giving up more than 2-3 all year. The Blues came out playing physical in the first, but it was almost like the Hawks weathered their best punches and then just countered and shut them up. Elliott didn't get a lot of help from the defense, for sure, but he could have had a couple of those goals. But I can't really complain because it could have been much worse if not for Elliott.
At least Perron got a goal. That was worth the price of admission.

Hawks came in with something to prove and they proved it. Blues were not up to the task. No big deal. Move on and prep to get 2 points next game.
Blues just didn't look aggressive enough to me, but it was a pretty entertaining game with all the scrums.
Is the rivarly back? For me it is, because I (Franking) HATE the Blackhawks again.
We should have dropped the gloves a few times, especially after the game was lost. That was quite pansylike.
oh and one last thing: if our whole roster played like Langenbrunner, this would be a Cup team. Truth.

That place got LOUD when Perron scored. It was pretty awesome. What's even more awesome is that it was so loud when 1/2 the people there (or more) were hawk fans. Which brings me to my next point. WTF?!?!??!?!? That place should never get loud with cheers in the final seconds of a loss. That's fucked up.
This game reminded me of the early 90s games against the Blackhawks. I really hope this means the rivalry is back for good.

I didn't see a fight. But, as I was walking back to my seat for the 3rd period I overheard some people saying something about a fight in the bathroom. It's possible that they were joking or something though.

The piss poor power play that allowed the short handed goal, and then the horrible call on Berglund that should have been a call on Hossa...and the Hawks scored on that PP.
That was the difference in the game.
Reffing was horrible...that call against Berglund changed the game. Awful.
Chicago outshot us pretty good...but they didn't dominate in the number of great chances. A couple of their shots from the outside just found holes through players.
Meh.
Can't win 'em all. They weren't going to keep winning forever. Just sucks to lose to Chicago when a win would have tied us with Detroit and Chicago for 1st in the conference.
Perron looked great. Very nice goal and he set up a number of other great chances.
Great to have him back.
Perron is our 7th or 8th best forward? Uh...no. He's a top 6 guy easy.
