Blues trade DJ to Caps

Oh I won't question if its a steal for us, but I don't like us trading DJ for him.

Why?

Okay, he's better than Janssen. On my list of compliments about the guy that's about where it stops.

Without examining the Blues' depth chart- off the top of my head we got Backes, Winchester, Janssen and ?Sobotka willing to drop the gloves. It's not like we just dealt the only guy who can hold his own on our team.

True, I just like King over Janssen. Of course it isn't like we will see much fighting with Bettman in charge.

So we trade a player who is becoming a top heavyweight enforcer, who could actually skate and play hockey. To keep Cam who is completely worthless..........but oh wait he's a local guy so that gets rid of the fact that he does nothing for the team. That's like listening to a band that is ear-rapingly horrible but since they are a local band that somehow makes them good. FTW

Yeah, I'm sort of conflicted by this deal. I'm not a huge DJ fan by any means, but he does kick the crap out of people routinely. Cam? I don't know...he's entertaining, but it's just ridiculous to have a guy waste a roster spot for 4 minutes a night. This isn't an end all, be all trade like Brewer and change for Pronger, of course, but I'm not sure how it makes the team better. Doesn't really make them much worse though either. I would have rather we keep DJ than Cam, but oh well. More Eureka stories in our future!

Complaining about losing King is silly. It doesn't matter if Jannsen or King is on the team...that's not going to make or break anything.

I couldn't care less which one we kept.

However, I am intrigued by the player we got in return. If he's good for some forum conversation, he's already worth more than King.

Oh well, best of luck King. There goes my dream of King and Janssen on the 4th line together. DJ, just don't pummel Cam too badly on Dec 1st.

As a fan of King and not Janssen, I do not like this trade. King is 100x the player Janssen is.

But as a Blues fan, this deal is great. We got a prospect who is obviously respected by his peers, can rack up the PIMs in Peoria and knows how to be competitive. This deal is a good one for the team as a whole.

As for Stefan Della Rovere, referring to him as a prospect is a bit debatable. He was the Caps seventh round pick in 2008 but he's made appearances with the Canadian World Junior team in 2009 and 2010, winning the gold in 2009. Della Rovere has also never played in the AHL to this point having stayed with Barrie in Canadian juniors. He's yet to show what he's capable of doing as a professional and that's where the mystery comes in.

His career in juniors and the World Junior Championships is scattered with different questionable hits and incidents and he even got into a fight recently at the Capitals prospect camp. Perhaps the Caps motivation was to get a known quantity and give up a guy who they're not quite sure what he'll bring to the table as a pro. At least, I hope that's what their motivation is, as on paper the deal doesn't appear to make a world of sense. Perhaps the Caps have a better idea than we do at our computers as to what's actually going on with Della Rovere.

At the NHL level, he'd likely be a fourth-liner.

So we traded a fourth (liner) for a fourth (liner), I have no problem with that.

I do have a problem Cam still being here, but I'd have that problem with our without King.

I understand fighting is a big part of the game (and one of my favorites), but getting your azz kicked doesn't do a who lot for this team and that about all Cam is good for. I really don't see him intimidating opponents any more then Winchester.....which isn't much at all.


I'll stand by my assessment that Cam is just another Louie on the ice.

I don't know why you guys are THAT down on Janssen...he's a decent fighter (not as good as King, but decent), his fights are extremely entertaining, and he hits way more than King ever did.
I like his attitude and his vocal desire to play here.
I mean, I'd much rather have Salvador back, but it is what it is.

Neither King nor Janssen are difference makers. They aren't going to make a damn bit of difference on where we finish in the standings...and neither would play a single minute for us should we make the playoffs.

I'm fine with Janssen getting a few minutes of playing time a game during the season. And like I said before, I am intrigued by the guy we got in the trade.

I like this deal.
