One thing I don't get with NHL players that you hear at their pressers (Marner just said this recently at his golf outing a few weeks back) a lot is "I haven't heard anything" about the negotiations for their contracts. Seriously? "I haven't heard anything."? This is arguably the most important summer of your life and you're letting your agent just control EVERYTHING to the point you're not even participating in the negotiations or process? Or are the players just flat lying?
That just absolutely baffles me. I get it, their young guys(/kids) without the savvy of someone who's "in the business" but for f**k sake, you have an opinion as to where you want to be, for how long, and for roughly how much money. How in the h**l would you not be intimately involved with your agent and the team trying to work a deal getting done?
Do these agents just come to them and be like "I accepted this on your behalf, sign here"?

That's my guess. They know WAY more than they let on, but the cop out of "I don't know anything" is just an easier way to avoid having to talk about it to the media.

Anybody else sad for the new NHL season to start? I don't even want another season. I'm good, let's just cancel hockey. Blues are champs forever.
P.S. I've been totally out of it with football/ any other sports this August/early September. I'm still riding the high and don't even feel like doing anything else sports fandom wise haha.

Maybe a little sad. Nowhere to go but down. Even if they repeat, which would be fantastically amazing, nothing could EVER match last year. The first one will always be the most special.
It took me awhile, but I finally started following the Cardinals around the ASB, and in depth to my usual amount by early Aug. (Usually its the moment the Blues are done, so often pretty early in the season) They are fun to watch right now but weren't for a good chunk of the season.

I thought for a while how great an extended lockout would be, you know be defending champs for a year extra, but really I’d rather watch hockey. I’m a realist and I know repeating is rare and difficult these days but I don’t see why two in three or four years should be out of the question. The Kings did two of three and I think we have the coaching staff to do something similar. Especially with the guys in the pipeline coming in soon I bet we’ll see at least two, maybe three Cups over the next few seasons. For the first time in a long time it’s exciting to be a Blues fan and I’m ready to get it started.
I was thinking about this the other day. With as well as the Blues played, and they were fantastic and deserved every bit of this Stanley Cup win, they had so many moments where they could have been eliminated. Without a crazy game 5 third period in Winnipeg, they might not make it out of the first round. (wasn't elimination, so you never know).
If parayko doesn't shoot a bazooka at Bishop, maybe he shuts the Blues out in game 7, or maybe the Stars tie it up late in game 6.
The Sharks series is likely different without a couple of key injuries that allowed for the final two games to be a bit of a breeze.
If Binnington doesn't channel his inner Vladislav Tretiak in game 7 of the Finals, I doubt the Blues are winning after the 1st. Heck, even before that, Tank's game 4 tying goal was ridiculous. I still don't know how he roofed it on the backhand while falling away from the puck. Even the first goal of game 7, ROR said in the DVD that he saw JayBo was lining up for the shot and he just threw his stick in the general vicinity of the shooting lane. I think if that one doesn't sneak through Rask, the rest of the period might have been different.
I know every champion has those types of moments, but that's just why its so hard to win the whole thing. So much has to go right. The Blues could play better than last year and get eliminated due to a few flukey bounces.
Does this team have the potential, the talent, the depth and the system to win again in the next 1-3 years? Absolutely. As long as they play hard and play their game, they should be competitive and I'll enjoy watching them.

But, that website is dangerous. Makes me wanna spend even more.
What I really want, though, is the Western Conference Champs official hat. I'm sure it was a limited run, because it's out of stock everywhere I look that is a conventional place to buy official gear.
I'll never forget this one, it was awesome basking in the glory, watching all the Stanley Cup "days with the cup," obviously the parade, the rings... just awesome.
Happy End of Offseason guys! That was fun!!!!
