Only because he doesn't get a - for being on the penalty kill, but more importantly because the guy that walked around him hit the post.
He's a serviceable defenseman - but not a captain and not a top 3.
The fukknut just sat there on the short side goal that was yes, soft, but how about blocking a damn shot, Brewie?

I'd say Brewer is worth about 1.5 mil per on the understanding that he will not be leaned on as a top defender and will be paired with someone better than he is.
Captains are required to score a min a fifty points per year right?
I'm not an insane Brewer hater, but I'm not a Brewer apologist. He has been playing better this year, but he has been here since 2005 and the only time the Blues made the playoffs was when he was injured half the season. He will never be accepted here. I'm not saying that because I think it's right that people boo him anytime he steps on the ice, but it's true. It would just be better for all parties if they moved on. But then fans would have to find a new go-to whipping boy.
Oh, and by the way, 2 goals in 2 games doesn't take away years of flubs and underwhelming play.

Want to hear an amazing fact?
The only year the Blues have made the playoffs since drafting Erik Johnson was the year he didn't play.

Amazing huh?
Good for him. EJ is 22 years old. He is in his 4th year in the NHL, and only the 3rd year in which he can play. That would have been his 2nd season. Eric Brewer is an established vet, a Captain, and a "#1 defenseman." EJ is still developing, Brewer is not.
And don't be an ass about this. Staunch Brewer defend are about as unreasonable as staunch Brewer haters. Like I said, Brewer doesn't deserve half the crap he takes from people. But I really do believe his time as a Blues is nearing it's end. He'd be perfectly suited as a 3rd-4th defenseman on a good team. And if he's willing to accept that role here, then fine. But if not...this team isn't going to go anywhere if Brewer is considered one of your best players. He's not an elite player by any means.

Brewer actually had a crappy start to the NJ game. A couple bad turnovers early and a horrible clearing attempt while killing our first penalty that resulted in continued pressure. But it didn't cost us a goal, so you won't hear anyone talk about it. He did play better as the game went on though.
And yup...he scored a goal for the 2nd game in a row. However, both goals were of the flukey variety, so take that for what it is worth.
It is mind boggling to me how someone can defend his play and say he's a good defense man that we should re-sign.
Brewer has played well for stretches in the past, but he never sustains it. Just when you think, "Hey...he's been playing a lot better lately." He'll regress and resume his sub-par play for a dozen games. He ALWAYS does this.
And I've been saying this since early in the year...Halak needs to start controlling his rebounds a little better. And he's still having issues holding on to the puck in his trapper...and it cost us a goal last night.
Not likely any defense-man, let alone the team captain, is getting moved while we still have 1/3 of our unit on the shelf. However, I wouldn't mind seeing him packaged for a top 6 forward once Polak and Jackman are back. Strachan and Oystrick have played well enough to provide us a safety net.
