Re: Free Agent Moves and Major Trades
I heard somewhere that there was doubt about Shattenkirk signing an extension in Edmonton. If that's the case (and I don't know if it is or isn't), that explains why his value would be lower to them.

I posted a link a couple weeks ago on how Armstrong wanted multiple first round picks in exchange for Shatty so if the asking price is still that plus NHL ready players I don't see him moving. Teams are well aware that Shatty only has one year left and no one wants to overpay for a one-year rental player who may leave next year when his contract runs out.cardsfan04 wrote:I heard somewhere that there was doubt about Shattenkirk signing an extension in Edmonton. Strickland debunked the Boston rumor and the Detroit/Larkin rumor. Granted, this is Strick Nasty but no one has debunked his debunk. So there ya have it.
Then you have Friedman claiming Taylor Hall would be here if Shattenkirk would have consented to an extension w/ Edmonton. Any deal involving him is contingent on him agreeing to extend w/ the Blues' trade partner (cardsfan alluded to this). Shatty wouldn't extend w/ the Oilers, so that's out the window.
I'm no champion for Doug Armstrong, but there are fans losing their shit because Taylor Hall isn't a St. Louis Blues left winger. If Edmonton wants assurance that Shattenkirk will sign an extension there and they aren't satisfied w/ the answer, therefore not pulling the trigger on a trade.....what the hell do fans expect Armstrong to do?
If you want be be pissed @ the Blues' GM, be pissed @ him for not trading Shatty when his value was legit, like the previous two summers. But even then, you could say Doug couldn't have known Colton Parayko would have emerged like he did, making Shatty more expendable.
Worst case is Armstrong settles and trades 22 for what the BFIH deem unacceptable.
Best case he flips him for a stud young forward OR he just keeps 22 and he returns to stud form being a 2017 UFA and all, and contributes like he's capable.
Any way you slice it, let Old Glory fly high this weekend and get ready for a shit show.

It's racism plain and simple... you've got a Southern state sending a white player to Quebec in exchange for a black...shit wait I thought this was The Huffington post...Kerfuffle wrote:Does anyone understand the Subban for Weber trade? Both are top defenders, highly paid. I don't get the trade-off - each team gets a great player but loses one in the process so what's the gain? Re: Free Agent Moves and Major Trades
If Price can get injured and it causes the whole Habs team to collapse, trading Subban or ANY member of their D corps off SEEMS an idiotic move (More of this further down this post). If one wants to get into the discussion about who is the team's captain, there is no question that Price leads that team and that the Habs live and die by that, like they've shown.
After last year, if I am the Habs GM, I would be moving forwards, not defensemen, because the D there and Condon actually got the job done and the forwards outright sucked.
This isn't about Subban at all, imho, this is about the team not trusting Max and bringing in Weber to better lead the team. Trading Subban was probably the quickest way to get this done, and as it's a Dman for a Dman, it actually makes sense and in a perfect world, it's an even trade. The Habs gained a leader but lost face at the same time with Subban going ON HIS OWN to do charitable things, which says alot about him and if you're donating as much money as he is, anyone who has an issue with that should both embrace Subban's work and match his donation, dollar for dollar, otherwise GTFO.
A Hard trade to make, but an understandable one if that's the real deal behind closed doors.
I expect Webs to be named Captain and the Habs to not be done with trading/acquiring players just yet.

I'm open to the idea I guess. Like anything in free agency, it all depends on money and what else is available.

Perron I'm guessing replaces Brouwer. Similar to Brouwer's cap hit last year...clearly they don't play the same type of game but points-wise, they offer about the same amount (around the 40 point range) and can work on the PP. Perron won't do much penalty killing, I'm guessing.

I don't mind Perron in as much as he'll provide some secondary scoring and it sort of rectifies an awful trade, but who replaces Backes? I was kind of hoping for Frans Neilsen. Still a shot at Okposo.

Yeah. Perron isn't here to replace Backes. I'm really worried how small we're getting though. Brouwer and Backes out. The reality that Backes is actually gone has me kinda sick though. I really hate this even though it was inevitable.

Perron - LEFT WING... Not the top LW, but an area the Blues needs more depth. That's why Perron. It's not like he doesn't have talent.
Why do morons write articles that say a Left Winger replaces a Right Winger?

Re: Free Agent Moves and Major Trades
Don't get Brouwer's cap hit. Blues probably could've afforded that. Apparently he just really wanted to go to Calgary.
Figured Backes was gone and for that kind of money and term that's fine by me. I don't understand why the hell Loui Ericksson wanted to join the sinking ship that is the Vancouver Canucks.
If Perron is the only move we make (sans Hutton) I'll be disappointed.

Chris Stewart is finally getting paid for his effort (1.15M per year for 2 years), instead of the ridiculous amount he was over-paid for his effort before.

Re: Free Agent Moves and Major Trades
Ladd signed with the Islanders for 7 years at around $5.5M per. That's a far cry from the 8 years and $56M he wanted to resign with Winnipeg before the trade deadline.
We just got Campbell back on a one year deal @$2M - he's 37 but I like the addition cause he's a solid D guy still.
Not surprised Backes is gone - I thought it was a foregone conclusion going into the offseason.
