I hope someone hooks you guys up w the referral discounts. I have a friend who went to Dtv a few months ago and I'm using him as a referral. $10 credit a month for 10 months is not too shabby!

Charter, as annoying as they are... are currently the best source for Blues hockey in the St. Louis area.
Except for maybe U•Verse, but I think I remember hearing that there was something weird about them as well... but I could be wrong.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as it stands now we have...
DirecTV = no VS. at all. FSMW is fine
DishNetwork = FSMW with a crap ton of Blues games not making it to the air, VS. Fine
Charter = FSMW fine, VS. only in standard def
U•Verse = ???
And, I will reluctantly concur that Charter has improved. My bill would have skyrocketed to about $200/month, but I was able to negotiate a very fair 12 month promotion (no commitment) with them that will keep me happy until U-Verse becomes available in my neighborhood. I pay $126 AFTER TAXES AND EVERYTHING. This includes unlimited local/long distance, 5mb internet, HBO/Cinemax + HD tier and 160gb DVR.

The thing with Charter is, and this may have changed since I left them over a year ago, is that their HD offerings sucked.
Yes, they are probably the best thing going at the moment for Blues hockey in St. Louis, but I wouldn't go their route because of their crappy HD selection, unless that has changed.
I just counted 35 HD channels (which includes the locals and the premium movies). I was under the impression that even though other companies offered a greater quantity of HD channels that many of them were simply upscaled versions of the SD channel and not true HD.
Their HD selection is worse then the competition but not by that much.
The only HD channels I would like that I don't have are VS. (for me) and Lifetime (Project Runway for wife) Bravo (for wife). Besides that I think they have just about everything covered. I guess Comedy Central would be nice, but I don't think they broadcast much in HD even though they have an HD feed available.
Charter is switching over to some new type of signal later this year that is going to open up a lot of bandwidth and allow them to add more HD channels which they are supposed to do. The downside is that everyone is going to have to get new cable boxes and I'm going to need to get an adaptor box to talk to the cablecard in my HD TiVo.
I currently pay $88 a month for the standard cable package (no movie channels or all the digital channels in the 100s), plus their full standard HD suite (not the HBOs and pay stations though) and 10 meg internet... the annoying thing is that I have to call them every 6 months to "negotiate" a better rate, because my deal always expires. That said, I don't know what they have written on my notes page, but as soon as I call I get transfered to a supervisor and they kiss my ass like crazy. They always mention things I complained about 2 years ago, so I guess they must be listening. Sort of.
