All I want to know is this: is Hulsizer a cheapskate?

Being that the guy is buying the majority stake without any major investors, I'm going to guess no.

I don't see how this can be viewed as anything but a positive. Dude has deep pockets, the team is virtually guaranteed to stay since Dave is still involved and in turn both buildings, and it's appears Hulsizer will leave the team operations to the 'hockey people' since he's keeping Dave on.

Does anyone have a picture of Hulsizer with his shirt off?

Well...at least it's news...and good news at that.
Hopefully this gets done, and done sooner rather than later. Guy has deep pockets and loves hockey. This wouldn't just be a business purchase for him, he's a fan of the game...hopefully that means he's not overly concerned with making as much money as possible and will spend a little more to upgrade this team when necessary.
Cautiously optimistic I am.

When I first read the thread title quickly, I thought it said "Hustler"
.
I was (Franking) stoked. I envisioned a "Beaver Hunt" club at Scottrade Center, sans "One for the Ladies"

Reported net worth for Hulsizer is ~$300M.
I just hope he doesn't screw the Blues since Hulsizer is a CHICAGO businessman.
Season Theme - from Detroit
Owner - from Chicago
What could possibly go wrong?

I still prefer the idea of Max Chambers as the exclusive owner. Hulsizer's arrangement sounds like meeting the new boss, same as the old boss. Just another investment group led by a hockey fan (that has to answer to other investors).
Eh, it's good news, but "Checkett's enters into agreement to sell interest in the team to Calgary businessman Max Chambers" would've been better.

From my understanding Hulsizer the hockey fan. And this financial situation is not currently structured as an investment (at least not short term anyways) and if he buys in it's because he want to own a hockey team, not as an investment.

Also, there are some rumblings that Max Chambers' situation doesn't appear as solid as it seems on the surface. Hulsizer is the guy I've been hoping to own it all along. When he was looking into the Coyotes, he would show up to their games and if I remember correctly, he would be wearing a Yotes sweater, etc. Like Ditka said, he seems like he wants to own a team and from what I've read, if Checketts stays on, it will be mainly to run the Opera House more than anything else.

The big question is how does Hulsizer feel about the don't stop believing campaign?

Dude offered $100M straight cash for the 'Yotes last year so I don't think money's an issue. He owns an investment firm but the purchase would be as an individual. It sounds like Dollar Dave would stay on and help operate the Opera House but have little to do with the hockey side of things. Hulsizer is a fan of the game and wants to be a part of the club. He's been before the BOG before and I think if he were to proceed things would be approved by the league in a timely manner.
My only fear is that the guy buys the team and becomes the ultra hands-on owner. I would prefer someone with hockey intelligence and the money to finance moves our current leadership has been handcuffed from making. But as long as we keep the team and have solid financial backing I guess I can't complain too much how he wants to run the thing.

Well, they have about 52 or so hours to get the deal done or Checketts is a liar.

This was the general info on the deal in Phoenix:
Hulsizer agreed to purchase the Coyotes for an estimated $160 million to $170 million, after Glendale gives him $100 million for parking rights at Jobing.com Arena. Earlier in the week, an Arizona Republic report showed conflicting opinions on the value of those rights.
One firm produced a nine-page report stating the city would magically recoup almost the entire $197 million investment. Another said Glendale would be lucky to earn $89 million over the next 25 years. To many residents, the lukewarm reaction to hockey in Arizona makes any commitment seem ludicrous.
“This team was placed in a very difficult position,” Glendale City Manager Ed Beasley said. “There was no advertising going on, no marketing going on, and limited ticket sales. To ask Mr. Hulsizer to come in, put up his own money, guarantee some of that money, turn this thing around, show a profit in 5-7 years with the promise that he can’t leave for 30? We think that’s a fairly good deal.”
Besides, Beasley claimed the Coyotes’ total economic impact in Glendale is $511 million, a number established in bankruptcy proceedings.
“Wouldn’t you spend $197 million to keep a $511 million investment?” he said.
No doubt, it’s a great deal for Hulsizer. When it finally gets done, let’s hope he’s worth the sticker shock.
So he was going to get $197 million while paying ~$170M. Nice deal for him if it would have worked out. Too bad for Phoenix that the Canadians were up in arms about the city "paying the owner" in spite of Canadian NHL teams regularly being subsidized.
Bonus for the Blues if the deal actually does go through.

I just want this damn thing over with so we can make sure our young guys get locked up and we could possibly bring in the top-tier players we've needed for so long...
