hahahah the russian announcers are hilarious. sound like a couple drunks. "OPPPPAAAAAAA"

Re: Terasenko Hat Trick
When Scott Hartnell got his hat trick recently, they had to add the remaining 40 something seconds onto the next period because of the excessive amount of hats.
It looked like there was a total of one hat on the Tara-trick lol.

Re: Terasenko Hat Trick
2 of those three goals he does an outstanding job of using the defender to screen the shot, so the goalie can't see the puck until it is past the defender, forcing a slower reaction.

I thinks it's funny "hat trick" is pronounced "hat trick" in Russian. Appears to be a phrase known throughout the world in every language.

On that first goal, any NHL-caliber defense worth anything would have knocked him on his ass with his head down like that for that long. Nice wrist shots either way.

I don't think it's pronounced "hat trick" in Russian... they just say the phrase in English.theohall wrote:I thinks it's funny "hat trick" is pronounced "hat trick" in Russian. Appears to be a phrase known throughout the world in every language.

Kinda of like how we say "douche" here in America. It's really a French word meaning "shower," which is ironic, since the French are dirty, unshowered douches.

It's actually pronounced "hat trick" in Russian. One of the borrowed terms. There are lots.goon attack wrote:I don't think it's pronounced "hat trick" in Russian... they just say the phrase in English.theohall wrote:I thinks it's funny "hat trick" is pronounced "hat trick" in Russian. Also, judging by the team's jerseys, he was traded to SKA Saint Petersburg.

Re: Terasenko Hat Trick
His father was apparently fired as Sibir's head coach and Tarasenko moved to SKA shortly afterwords. This is also apparently bad news for the Blues, as they are probably the only team in Russia with the resources to keep him there.ComradeT wrote:Also, judging by the team's jerseys, he was traded to SKA Saint Petersburg.

hmmmm, that's the first time I've heard this is bad news for us. I've been hearing it's good news and that the only reason they traded him is because they knew he was bolting to the NHL after this season and wanted something in return for him.sparty09 wrote:His father was apparently fired as Sibir's head coach and Tarasenko moved to SKA shortly afterwords. Re: Terasenko Hat Trick
Tarasenko’s choice
01.02.2012
Former SKA, Severstal, Dynamo Moscow, St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Alexander Khavanov, now TV commentator and analyst shares his professional insight and gives his authoritative views on the teams, clubs, and events in and beyond the KHL.
***
Over the course of this season the question of enticing Russian players back to Russian club hockey, and holding on to the ones we have, has arisen a number of times at various levels. Today the conversation will focus on one of the youngest, most exciting, and brightest prospects among all Russian forwards in the KHL at this moment - Vladimir Tarasenko.
Last year, at the tender age of 19 he made his debut for Team Russia at the world championship in Slovakia, and even opened his account for his country with his goal in the bronze medal game against the Czech Republic – no mean feat at such a young age. Tarasenko’s account for the current KHL campaign stands at 21 goals and 43 points from 44 games, and a glance at the statistics shows he is now the joint second highest goal-scorer and boasts the eighth highest points haul of the season, and he is still only in his 20th year.
The North American rights to Vladimir Tarasenko belong to the St. Louis Blues, who drafted him 16th overall in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Already this season the leadership of the NHL club wanted to see Vladimir in the roster of their team, but having weighed up all the pros and cons the player opted for another season in the Kontinental Hockey League championship.
All the same, there is no reason why we should not enjoy taking a close look at those factors and reasons which could influence the player’s choice, and in this respect Vladimir Tarasenko’s move from Sibir to SKA could genuinely become one of the main arguments in favor of staying in the Russian championship. I would not be at all surprised if it turns out that the main aim behind the biggest move of this KHL season was not so much to strengthen the Petersburg team in time for the play-offs, as it was to safeguard the young forward for the Kontinental Hockey League and for the Russian national team.
In my view, there are at the moment several serious factors which could help keep Tarasenko in the KHL for a few more years. The first is the expiry this year of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL and the players’ union, and the accompanying threat of a potential lockout casting a gloomy shadow of uncertainty over the next NHL season.
The second is the personality of the Blues’ head coach Ken Hitchcock, whose record at dealing with young players- particularly young Russian players – is far from perfect, and we do not have to look too hard for examples.
A third factor is that St. Louis is not a club with a rich tradition of Russian players; currently in their entire North-American system the Blues have only Evgeny Grachyov, and he has been unable to command a regular spot in the NHL team’s line-up.
Factor number four is without doubt the financial aspect. A KHL club of SKA’s standing and budget is in a position to make a much more attractive offer to the player than he is likely to get as a rookie in the NHL.
Finally, we have the wishes of the player himself. A player with the Sochi Olympics in his sights would jump at the chance to play at one of Russia’s leading clubs, and the move to SKA is just such an opportunity. In fact, even if we leave aside potential domestic and language problems, there are quite enough causes to think twice about a move across the Atlantic.
The final decision nonetheless resides with the player. In this situation the NHL has only one advantage, but a considerable one all the same – St. Louis could offer Vladimir Tarasenko the chance to return to the KHL if things did not work out. Such an escape clause is quite a frequent feature in player’s contracts, and is the ideal situation for the sportsman himself.
But the last thing I would want is for this player to be the subject of yet another tug of war between the two rival leagues…
Of course, this is coming from a guy that covers the KHL.
