I think this is a good move. Just subtraction by addition. Getting Stewart out of our hair and ON the team is the business! Maybe EJ needed a change of scenery and altitude. Good luck to him except when he is playing against the Blues. Or we could always have a golf cart by the visitors entrance. EJ wouldn't even come CLOSE to the Scotty then!

Yes, he did. Still won't hit anyone. Wound up just standing by the net instead of doing anything when the Sharks were working behind the Avs net on either corner. He did actually one time a puck once, but was still doing the same idiotic stick-handling thing he does almost every time he touches the puck. It's almost like the ball-pat some QBs do right before throwing which has to get coached out of them.

Glad we got Shattenkirk. There were at least two times last night Shattenkirk actually boxed out an opponent in front of the net getting the turnover and turning the puck up ice. Hadn't seen that from EJ in a long time and didn't see it last night either when he had opportunities to do so.

All these games the next two weeks are going to be fun to watch with the new additions. And these next two weeks should put the Blues in a playoff spot since they are playing teams ahead of them in the standings and will start using up games in hand. Only 5 points out right now. The goaltending has to hold up, though, which is why Bishop should be playing.

Everyone talking about how many teams they need to leapfrog to get into contention, even after the games in hand.. remember this: Last time the Blues were in the playoffs it was on the heels of leapfrogging even more teams than they have to now, and they're in a much better position (stronger team) to do it this time than they were in last time.

One more trade (BOYES!) and I'll be confident that this team can win the 17 more games I think they need to make the show.

Colorado lost 4-0 to San Jose. Both former Blues -1 with Johnson playing almost 27 minutes. Avalanche are 0-9-1 in their last 10 games.

I don't know how many of you are following the Av's forums but after one game in which he finished -1 they have declared him "Ray Bourque." I kid you not. So seeing as how Stewie had two goals I guess we got Jarome Iginla.

I briefly read the avs forum at fans.nhl.com or something like that. Many of their posters were getting pissed at Blues fans over pretty much nothing.

To be fair, I wasn't totally up to speed on Chris Stewart and Shattenkirk at the time that we got them.

Granted, they aren't former #1 overall picks that, most likely, a hockey fan writing on a hockey forum would be knowledgeable about... but still.

EJ's ceiling is still very high and even if this year won't show it, there's nothing to say future seasons won't. Again, history will be the judge. At the moment though... loving this trade.

Concur. Already said this trade is about the Blues making a playoff push right now and the Avs trading to build for their future. IMO, Pietrangelo will prove to be the better defenseman. He wasn't coddled by Al MacInnis and it shows. One of those two plays with passion and drive. The other plays as if the NHL should respect him because of where he was drafted.

Shattenkirk in one game showed better positional play around the Blues net than I've ever seen from EJ - including last season. He actually boxes out opponents - something I've never seen Brewer or Erik Johnson actually do.

Not to switch topics, but I gotta give the guy credit though. His comeback with the Penguins, then going to the Wild and putting up 51 points... the guy has a deep love and commitment to the sport, no doubt of that. Not many have that kind of perseverance. Unfortunate that his name will forever be associated with #1 overall flops.
