But then one of them went on a rant saying how Detroit does it the right way. They don't buy anyone at all. (Then what was your 2002 Cup team?) They also said they've never held the #1 overall draft pick. (Check the list...I see at least 3 Detroit #1 overall selections. Maybe since it's pre-1997 it doesn't count, I don't know) They also proceeded to call Bernie "Fedetenko," you know, even though he was a Red Wing briefly.

I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. They only re-affirmed what we already knew....Red Wings fans are complete douches.
It's amazing how many Red Wings fans became fans in the late 90's when the team started winning and are oblivious to their decades of prior suckage. They weren't even filling half of the building before the 90's...and the large groups of Detroit fans on the road? Didn't exist.
Anyone can be a fan of a team when they are winning. You see what kind of fans a team really has when they are losing.

And it pisses me off that idiots out there think Holland is a genius for getting Datsyuk and Zetterberg late in the draft. If he was so smart, he would have went off the board and drafted them higher. He got them so late because he and the entire league didn't know how talented they really were. They got lucky. You don't pass on someone for 6 or 7 rounds if you know they are going to be as good as those two players are. The Wings are also lucky that the flight leaving to go see Zetterberg play in Europe that a Blues scout was scheduled to be on was cancelled. The Wings scout was the only other scout there. Had the flight not been cancelled, maybe the Blues sign him a round sooner...you never know. It's just dumb luck with those two players, that's all.

Totally agree, but when will it be our turn to get lucky?

The only two times we got 'lucky' IMO were the Brett Hull Trade and when Furr was not only washed up, but was still one of the best goalies in the league.

Sure, we've been fortunate here and there, but I'm talking about THAT kind of lucky.

Yes, I also forgot to mention that when we finally made it into the building, standing in line to have them scan our tickets, these two tools were like, "What are all these Blues fans doing here? Aren't the Blues already out of it?"

Once we got situated in our seats, I mentioned that to my Dad and I said, "Isn't that the mark of a good fanbase? They show up whether the team is good or bad?"

And you are right about the Datsyuk and Zetterberg thing. It's the same way with the Cards and Pujols. Were the Cardinals smart enough to pick Albert in (what was it?) the 13th round? Or were they dumb enough to let him sit out there for hundreds of picks before they finally grabbed him? Like you said, it was luck. Anyone could have grabbed them that late.

And with Pujols, Bonilla was slated as the starting 3Bman that year, but he got hurt late in spring training...so Pujols got the starting job and never looked back.
Had Bonilla not gotten hurt, who knows what would have happened with Pujols? Maybe he still comes up with the team later...or maybe he gets traded for something...or maybe he never makes it back.
