I don't really have an opinion on him replacing Simms. I am a little surprised that they are putting him in that role on day 1, but don't really care much either way.
As for him retiring, good for him. I don't know his entire injury history, but I know he has had some back/neck issues. This seems like the smart move, especially since he surely could have landed a job somewhere.

I think he's done a good job from the bits and pieces I've watched. I like how he explains what he's thinking before things happen. Most players can explain what has already happened, but explaining what he is thinking in real time I found interesting.
