World Series: St. Louis Cardinals vs. Detroit Tigers

Well, here comes the hard part for both teams. As much as I want the Cardinals to win, I still don't see them beating the Tigers. The Cardinals are going to need Pujols and company to really be on their game. Pitching will be key.

So, keeping it simple: who wins?

If the Cards can win one at home, I'd be satisfied with a good outing.

You must remember, the Tiger don't exactly have the post-season experience that this Cards roster brings into the World Championship.

You gotta go with Reyes in game 1. If you go Weaver, then you're gonna have to go Carpenter and Suppan and then all three woul dbe on short rest.

Regarding who pitches on Saturday...Reyes with life support close by. The Tigers strength is pitching...not hitting. Rolen, Edmonds and "others" will need to wake up for the Cards to have a chance.

I agree. Hopefully the kid will pitch better and just hope for the best.

Something else to think about... how about the lineup for game 1? Assuming Rogers is pitching, I'd do this...

1. Ekstein
2. Duncan (DH)
3. Pujols
4. Rolen
5. Encarnacion
6. Edmonds
7. Spezio
8. Molina
9. Belliard

I know Duncan against a lefty is alittle odd, but Rogers isn't a power pitcher so I'm less concerned about the matchup disadvantage. The other options at 2 are Spezio who hasn't performed well from the right side in the postseason and Wilson who looked awful tonight. Plus, there aren't many chances you're going to get Duncan's bat in the lineup without having to deal with his poor outfield play.

This is a good line up.

But I would switch Edmonds with Encarnacion. Got to love the DH rule.

LaRussa has pushed the right buttons so far but I hope he figures out a way to get Encarnacion out of the cleanup spot vs. lefties. He's brutal and it's too easy to pitch around Pujols. Logically it looks like the Tigers should win this but ANYTHING can happen in a 7 game series in baseball. Go Redbirds!

Leyland hasn't announced it yet, but talk radio has Rogers going in game 2 so he would be able to go again in game 6 if necessary.

Yea, I knew it wasn't official.... a friend of mine who lives in Detroit said he thought Rogers would be pitching game 1 when i talked to him last night.

Even though Rogers has dominated twice at home so far this post season, I wouldn't be surprised to see Leyland stick with the same rotation he has used so far; Robertson, Verlander, Rogers and Bonderman. But so far, whatever changes Leyland has made has worked, so I'll leave it to him.

Judging him when he is playing hurt and isnt' 100%, isn't really fair.

However, over his career, I think he is like a .280 hitter and averages 20-30 home runs...he had that MVP-calibre year here and people may expect that from now on...which isn't realistic.

But he is the best defensive 3rd baseman in the game, and one of the best in the history of the game though.

So you want to judge him on the 5 games in his career when he's been 100% healthy?
