Hell, we went couple years here where we had horrible goaltending. The Johnson/Turek era was a roller coaster of inconsistency and disappointment.

I watched every game of the Oilers and Wings in the playoffs. And while Legace could have been a bit better, the Oilers just flat out outplayed Detroit...plain and simple. And for anyone to blame Legace and say he was the main reason why they lost, is just looking for a scapegoat...and the goalie is always the easy one to blame...especially in Detroit.
It's a lazy analysis, IMO.
And now that Legace is no longer in Detroit...it's dogpile on Manny.

Good question. They were on a roll. I've said this before, I personally think the Pronger suspension back fired on us. Up until then we had all the motivation, after he was suspended it motivated his team and that was all she wrote.

If they don't feel a goalie can take them to the promise land, well, the goalie's gone. What's the point of keeping him? It may be ok for teams in transition or rebuilding, but a team that's sole goal is to win the Cup is not going to keep a goalie they don't think can win one.

I was just using him as an example at how others feel the same way.

He was referring to the fans. And I've ALWAYS heard that. Even back in the days when you had Hanlon in net. I remember the tv commentators saying how Detroit fans were always too hard on their goalies (this was after the crowd was booing Hanlon).
And yes I realize you need good goaltending to win a cup...I am Blues fan, remember? We haven't had the goaltending required to win a cup since Glen Hall...or maybe Mike Liut.
So I am well aware of what type of goaltending you DON'T need. I've seen plenty of that.

I have no problem with that line of thinking. And I'm glad Detroit didn't want Legace back. He's played quite well here. Blues fans thank Detroit for that.
My whole thing is that when a goalie is wrongfully accused of being the primary reason they lost a playoff series...that's when you get labeled as being too hard on a goalie. Could he have been better? Sure. Was he the reason they lost to Edmonton? No. Not in my opinion.
