Well frank.........

Lidstrom to miss 3 weeks with sprained knee
By GEORGE SIPPLE • FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER • February 20, 2008

Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom said he expects to miss the next three weeks with a sprained right knee.

Lidstrom, already wearing a brace, spoke to reporters after practice at Joe Louis Arena on Wednesday.

“I was hoping for something shorter but right now they’re saying three weeks,” Lidstrom said. “Just did an MRI this morning. Haven’t seen the results yet. …

“It’s a little sore walking around.”

Lidstrom, in his 16th season, has missed just 22 games, many of them he was healthy for but was given off to rest.

He was injured six minutes into Monday’s 4-0 victory over the Colorado Avalanche when he was smashed into the boards by Ian Laperriere.

“I don’t think it was a dirty hit,” Lidstrom said. “I think he did follow through with his elbow. And I think it should have been a two-minute penalty.”

Lidstrom said he will have a second test to determine whether he has a concussion, possibly tomorrow.

“The first test was OKy, so they don’t think there’s anything there, but I still have to do that other test,” he said.

He will not accompany the team on its three-game road trip, which starts Friday at Calgary.

Lidstrom leads all NHL defensemen in scoring with 57 points in 62 games and leads all players with a plus-39 rating.

Lidstrom is the ONLY Wings player I have any respect for and that includes Yzerman. Lidstrom doesn't try to get involved in scrums when his team trys to start sh*t. He just plays the game and keeps his mouth shut. He's a living HOFer.

NOTEBOOK: The Wings and Flames will wear No. 18 stickers on their helmets tonight in honor of Windsor Spitfires captain Mickey Renaud, who collapsed and died Monday. The Flames will have a moment of silence before the game for Renaud, whom they selected in the fifth round of the 2007 draft.

Downey impaled his face to an elbow tonight and did the truffle shuffle over the bench.

Can't find the hit yet, but I did manage to find this:

Chelios has a fractured leg. He took a slap shot and tried to come back, but left early in the first.

This is ridiculous. I've never seen anything like it.

Lilja and Lebda will be leading the defense tomorrow night.

The only bright side to this is that I didn't realize how stacked the Red Wings were on defense prospects. Meech, Quincey, and big Jonathan Ericsson played like NHL defenseman. I'm really impressed with Ericsson 6-5 225 with skill and he's physical. 22:39 for him tonight. I saw him fight here in Grand Rapids when I went to see McCarty and he smoked his oppopnent.

Likely defense tomorrow against Vancouver:
Lilja-Meech
Lebda-Ericsson
Quincey- Kindl

Oh and Detroit has to get a scoring winger by the deadline. One line can't do it all.

Dallas has crept up to within 8 pts. of Detroit.

With how hot Dallas is and how poorly Detroit is playing...it might get interesting.

That's whatI was thinking last night. I could see Dallas passng Detroit, but I'm not too concerned with that.

I also thouht Detroit played a real solid game last night. Tanguay threw the puck out front from behind the net. It proceeded to go off Datsyuk's stick, then Lebda's body and bounced in. Detroit outplayed Calgary for most of the game, but Kpper was stellar. This felt a lot like a frustratng playoff game where the other team gets a ridiculous bounce and the Red Wings outwork the oppopsition, but run into a hot goalie. I have nightmares of this.

Yeah, this is one franked up situation. But, it could have a positive side, maybe. Get all these injuries out of the way and HOPE they stay out of the way, get everyone healthy before the stretch run. But who knows. And you're right Hullie, we cannot go anywhere with just one line. Somehow the team made us think that they were just fine offensively, but now we are seeing their true colors. I'm still thinking we'll be just fine come April.

Hmmm....
Sounds like something someone was saying before the seasons started.
I wonder who that was?

How good Detroit is, lies somewhere in between the level they were at for most of the season and how they are now. They weren't as good as they were, but they aren't as bad as they are now....if that makes any sense.

Maybe all the chickens are finally coming home to roost, eh?

I'm sorry that they have a bunch of players injured, as I wouldn't wish injury on anyone... but when you make your bed, you've got to lie in it. Keep relying on 40-year-old players, and sooner or later those guys are all going to be retired, and then you're (Frank)ed.

The d-prospects are mildly interesting, however... damn 'em.

It makes perfect sense, which I hope is a recipe for success. But, just like any NHL playoff run, you have to have luck on your side. Before we were worried that they had peaked too soon. Now we're worried that they can't score any goals. Now we know Osgood sucks-ass (okay, we've always known that). Now we have our entire 1st and 2nd team d-men out with injuries.

Lots of questions - like where the hell is Holmstorm.

Just to be clear, which I think you were being, but, age has nothing to do with the recent injuries. Nothing. In fact, I think we only have two players over 40, so in retrospect, I have no idea what the hell you were just talking about in relations to "relying on 40-year old players".

(Frank) the Wings. My only regret is that I did not personally cause all the injuries that are currently affecting the team.

Don't look now...but Detroit has lost 10 of their last 11 games and Dallas is only three points behind Detroit now.

Detroit's lead is officially in jeopardy. That's crazy that they have blown that huge of a lead in that short of a time.
