New Flogging Molly album out March 4th

Post by glen a richter »

I don't know if anyone here actually cares, but this excites me. It seems like there's years between FM releases, and just in time for the St. Patricks season too.

YAY! I was fire-pissed when I found out I'd just missed their show here earlier in the month; they also had an in-store appearance (at Vintage Vinyl, for people around here) before the show, which I found out about the day after the show. Granted, it was the same night as one of my midterms so I couldn't have gone anyway, but STILL.

Their last one wasn't very good.. I don't have high expectations.

They are a kickass live show though. Seen 'em at Pop's and the Blue Note in Columbia and was pretty blown away both times.

I saw Flogging Molly twice, a few years back, once in the city (Manhattan, to you) and once at a local bar. Honestly, the show at the bar was much better mainly because of the atmosphere. I liked their last album but yeah, it wasn't as good as the previous two. Their first release off the new one is called Requiem for a Dying Song, it's up on all the file sharing services if you want to give it a listen before Tuesday.

After listening to the entire CD, I'll give it an A-

Best songs:

No more Paddy's Lament, You Won't Make a Fool Out of Me, Lightning Storm and On the Back of a Broken Dream

Between a Man and a Woman (studio version) stands up to the test of time (first appearance that I can recall was the live version on "Alive Behind the Green Door" (1997) )

It doesn't top Drunken Lullabies though, that was their best release yet, IMO, hence A- instead of A.
