CHESTERFIELD • Cardinals broadcaster Dan McLaughlin was arrested Monday night on suspicion of drunk driving, according to police.
Chesterfield police Lt. Steve Lewis said McLaughlin was pulled over about 10:45 p.m. on eastbound Highway 40 (Interstate 64) after an officer responded to a report of an erratic driver.
The officer suspected McLaughlin had been drinking and requested McLaughlin take a breathalyzer test. McLaughlin refused and was arrested, Lewis said. He was taken to Chesterfield police headquarters and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was released on bond at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Chesterfield police.
Many members of the Cardinals' organization and extended family attended a fundraiser that day in St. Alban's for Albert Pujols' foundation, but McLaughlin was not at that function.
McLaughlin, the primary play-by-play announcer on the Cardinals' Fox Sports Midwest telecasts, said Thursday he did not want to comment, based on advice of legal counsel.
Cardinals vice president Dan Farrell, who oversees the club's broadcasting operations, and Fox Sports Midwest spokesman Geoff Goldman also declined comment.
A motorist's drivers license can be revoked if the driver refuses to take a breathalyzer test to measure blood alcohol content. McLaughlin filed a petition Tuesday to fight revocation of his license, according to court records.
The court issued a stay order, meaning McLaughlin can continue driving while the case is pending. A hearing has been set for Oct. 6 in the case.

One of my favorite Dan memories was during his first season on the Blues broadcasts. Ken and Bernie were talking about the giveaway that night - it was little stuffed animal turkeys for Thanksgiving for kids under a certain age. One of them joked that "our own Dan McLaughlin probably qualifies for one of these! Just kidding, Dan has to be at least... 18."

he was that way in high school as well. He kept telling everyone he was going to be a big star and famous. Just full of himself back then as he was when you met him.
