It's the ultimate waste of resources, and a propos of a terribly-run franchise that either has no clue or doesn't really want to make the team better.
They need scoring. The status quo isn't working, so they have to do something. If they did nothing you'd likely criticize them for that too. These haven't worked out, but I'd rather them try to improve than accept losing with the status quo.

I'm curious where you would prefer them to look for improvement? ib4theyshouldhavesignedsomebodyintheoffseason

Yes- management was psychic and knew that teams would swoop in and claim both the players we signed before they would clear waivers and just decided to expend the time, energy and resources to do so anyway

They tried to bring in some guys on the cheap that maybe, just maybe, would seriously help out (of which I'll never disagree). It didn't pan out. Does it suck? Yea. I'd rather see them attempt to make a move- as they did here- than not even bother trying because they think it won't work. If NOTHING else they are showing initiative about getting someone else in the bluenote.

Trust me, we're better off without Kuntwood. Dude is soft and lazy. He'll do nothing for them.

Apparently, Edmonton, years ago, would sign a defensemen (I think the same one) every year right before the playoffs from some European team. So, they put the rule in place to prevent that from happening.

I don't understand why Edmonton wouldn't want him the entire year, if they needed him for the playoffs. But, this is a drastically different situation.
I found the origin. This is copied from the article from the front page. Some brilliant guy wrote this :okman:
Jeff Ponder LetsGoBlues.com wrote:The origin of this rule dates back to 1987. The Edmonton Oilers signed Finnish defenseman Reijo Ruotsalainen late in the 1986-87 season. He was a member of SC Bern of a Swiss League before the Oilers brought him in, which was a factor in their eventual-Stanley Cup victory. Because of this, the NHL felt a waiver rule should be in effect to stop teams from bringing in outside help.
