Re: Boyes traded to Buffalo for 2nd round draft pick
He doesn't fit the way this team plays. Almost never finishes a check, flatfooted in the offensive zone waiting for a perfect pass most of the time. When he gets the perfect pass, he whiffs, misses the net, or hits the post 90% of the time. He might be a great player elsewhere, but he was totally snake bitten here. Good move getting rid of him now while we can still get a reasonable draft pick for him.

Good luck Boyes. Great guy. Glad to hear his interview. He really seemed relieved. I'm sure it's never easy but, some times change is good. I remember about 7 years ago. I got fired from a job. Turned out to be one of the best things to happen to me. Maybe it will give McRae a bit.

Bingo. I think the brass want this to be a high energy, in your face team that other teams do not want to play against. I like Boyes, but he's a pansy. Good riddance.drwoland wrote: Almost never finishes a check

Actually, with the release of Conklin, our shootout skillz should pretty much net out.dmiles2186 wrote:Oh god. We're going to lose every shootout from here to forever. What ever will we do?

boyes was just streaky in the beginning of the year and he started shooting wide again. The main culprit for the shoot out losses ie. CONKLIN is gonedmiles2186 wrote:Oh god. We're going to lose every shootout from here to forever. What ever will we do?
Re: Boyes traded to Buffalo for 2nd round draft pick
Would have rather Boyes regained his scoring touch than be traded, but since that was unlikely to happen, it's good to get a high pick for him.

As I said in another thread, I would like to have a guy with Boyes upside on the third line, but with the increases to Oshie and Bergie coming up and with Backes going up 2 mill next year, they had to make this move to stay around 44 mill in payroll.

AMac is gonna make 1 mill less next year and Jax is making 1/2 mill less also and the Jay McKee buy out will be over(1.333 mill)DaDitka wrote:As I said in another thread, I would like to have a guy with Boyes upside on the third line, but with the increases to Oshie and Bergie coming up and with Backes going up 2 mill next year, they had to make this move to stay around 44 mill in payroll.

I don't see the relationship here.Nyghtewynd wrote:That didn't take long. The administration is admitting, essentially, that the rebuild is a complete bust. I don't expect him to be the last body thrown out of here.
From where I sit, Boyes was a guy with a couple years NHL experience brought in to hold a spot for the depth coming out of the draft/farm team. He was young, a first round pick, and had hands - if he panned out, great, but I think they never intended to keep him long term unless he forced them to with consistently superior play.
They stocked this team with young guys, shook it all around, and tried to figure out who can play and who can't. Boyes can't, so they dumped him and his salary. If he becomes an all star for Buff, good for them - he doesn't fit in STL and our team is better without him in the lineup.
And I agree with goon, the guy doesn't score nearly enough goals/points to play like such a complete pussy. If he was cranking out 50g/50a he could maybe, MAYBE get by playing like a little girl.

You are correct. Go work out the salary CAP Numbers...
We have 33,750,000 on the books for next year
Add 4.5 mill total for the TJ and Bergie contracts
another 1.1 mill for Biship.
Figure Cole is up next year and thats 1.2 mill
You're now at 40.25 mill and you still have to resign/replace..
Sobotka
Crombeen
Winchester
D'Agostini
Polack
Nikitin
Sctrachan
(Cole replaces one of those D-men)
if you filled each spot with a guy that only makes 725,000 and your payroll is right about 44.5 mill

Re: Boyes traded to Buffalo for 2nd round draft pick
I've kind of had a bit to process the trade and let's be honest: Brad Boyes scored 76 total goals in his first 2 full seasons here. That's impressive. We haven't had someone put the puck in the net like that in quite some time. He could be rejuvenated in Buffalo and do the same for them, it's hard to say. But at this point, the Blues got two fantastic goal scoring seasons out of Brad Boyes and then flipped him into a 2nd round pick. That's not bad. I know it's easy to be negative and to focus in on his drastic slide in the goal scoring department, but he was having a pretty decent year points wise. Remember a few years ago when he was scoring goals but was a big time - player? Didn't someone say he's a +11 this year? Not bad. Granted, I was always getting on Boyes in flashchat for constantly shooting wide (as a lot of us were) and other Boyes-type plays, but he really had been playing better as of late. I'm okay with him leaving though. I don't think he was going to be a lasting piece nor do I think this is proof that the rebuild failed. I think he served his purpose; scored some goals, was a key player for two years, and we traded him off for a pick. Plus, we've got a clog of RW players with Stewart, Oshie, Perron, so he was expendable. And if Buffalo wanted him? More power to them.
