What the hell got into the Pirates?

As NL central fans, I'm sure you all have a greater perspective on this question. Seriously, I know they'll fold up like a cheap tent in August and September, but in the meanwhile, what the hell got into the Pirates this season????

Even though they're in the NL Central I haven't paid enough attention but Clint Hurdle was a great hire for them. They've also finally got a decent mix of young talent worth a damn and cheap, sturdy veterans and that mix is going along way. Their pitching isn't outstanding but it's solid and after having so many awful pitchers in the past, someone like Kevin Corraea's (sp?) numbers won't wow you, but they solid and he was part of the reason for San Diego's success last year. As a Cardinals fan, the Pirates are the one team I wouldn't mind losing the division to.
