Flames cut/buy out Troy Brouwer

Not that we have any cap space, but what are the rules are someone signing this guy? Do they automatically step into the old contract, or can someone sign him to a 1 year minimum deal?

Re: Flames cut/buy out Troy Brouwer
As far as I know he's an unrestricted who can sign wherever for whatever.
Does anyone else find this a little crappy that Calgary did this so late in the summer where his options to sign with someone else are basically zero? Kinda sh**ty on Calgary's part.
I'm fine without him. At this point he'd just take ice time from a younger player potentially. It's technically possible the Blues could sign him but it'd have to be for absolute peanuts.

Raw deal for Brouwer for sure. Sucks to see that happen.
I agree with Waukee though- I don't think there is a spot for him on the team at this point. 6 goals in 76 games? That's exactly the same as Jaskin, who is 8 years younger. Maybe he could take Thorburn's spot on the 4th line, but then your RWs are Tarasenko, Perron, Steen, Jaskin and Brouwer, which leaves Jordan Nolan with zero playing time.

Re: Flames cut/buy out Troy Brouwer
Jordan Nolan shouldn't have any playing time. He's a depth signing to cover for injuries.
8 goals in 152 games for Nolan. Plus, Nolan is yet another left-handed shot. At least we knew Brouwer was solid as a right-handed shot in the slot on the Blues PP. But - there isn't any room.6 goals in 76 games?

Oh I'd take Brouwer over Nolan in a heartbeat. But, alas.theohall wrote:Jordan Nolan shouldn't have any playing time. He's a depth signing to cover for injuries.

plus not having the right coach to actually put players in the right positions to maximize their success in power play situations.

I think the existence and continuation of this particular thread means that we're running out of topics for the summer. Is it time for camp to open yet???

Kinda surprising considering I thought they were trying to get younger, but ok.glen a richter wrote:https://sports.yahoo.com/news/panthers- ... --nhl.html
