U18 World Championship

Post by theohall »

ESPN+ has the TSN feeds for the IIHF U18 World Championship live, so you don't have to wait for the delayed NHL network airing or can watch it on demand. 1st game is Canada vs USA. This is some of the top undrafted players. The missing ones are in the playoffs for their junior teams or still finishing their junior regular season.

Halfway through US is up 4-3 and has outshot Canada 27-8. Canada's 3 goals - great pass from Bedard, A penalty shot, and a shot from a ridiculous angle which would've hit the goalie if he weren't in the completely unnecessary reverse VH in that situation. US has essentially dominated play throughout this game.

This is ridiculous. Through 2 periods US up 6-3 led by an Isaac Howard hat trick and outshooting Canada 43-16. US isn't even having to try to block shots. Canada rarely gets into shooting positions. If Bedard weren't on Canada the score would be worse even more in favor of the US.

US switched to lockdown mode in the 3rd. 8 minutes in there has been a combined one shot on goal - of course the US took it.

USA dominated this tournament and ran into an incredible performance by the Swedish goalie, Hugo Havelid, in the Gold medal game. Were it not for USA penalty trouble in the 2nd, all of which were legit penalties, USA probably would have won. Instead, they get the Silver due to lack of discipline in a period they had dominated in their prior 6 games. Havelid stopped 47 of 51 shots. Team USA goalie Kenneth Augustine was not good giving up 5 goals on 14 shots.
