Re: Murray out, Payne in
Weaver should not be taken out, he has been way to solid on a penalty kill that is ranked near the top. He is still being underrated despite this year and last, I don't see him going anywhere, but I could be wrong.

Well ok, maybe not Weaver, but the point remains the same. Many pieces of deadwood are going to find themselves out of an NHL job and some of the kids down in Peoria (and lower) are going to find themselves in an NHL job.section319 wrote:Weaver should not be taken out, he has been way to solid on a penalty kill that is ranked near the top. I had a dream last night that a lot of the young talent was traded to other teams: Perron and Ian Cole were on Philadelphia, Pietrangelo was playing in the KHL. Berglund was nowhere to be found, Junland was playing in Sweden.
These are all things that could have been true if Murray were still here. What we're going to see now is if Jarmo actually did draft NHL level players--which I believe he did and I believe we'll know for certain by seasons end.

JD and Pleau still make personnel decisions. You won't see Pie till next season. Not gonna throw away that year of control for a couple months, when he saw just ok here anyway. Eller and Junland showed they weren't ready for prime time when they had their shot. Not to say they won't get another if injuries etc. Don't expect a big change. Maybe an Eller get's the call that Armstrong did, but I don't know. How much does JD listen to the coach on these decisions?

Well, hopefully Payne does call up Eller over Armstrong or at least Armstrong doesn't get the power play minutes he had the other night under Murray.

Re: Murray out, Payne in
I have to suspect that the coach has a large say in who plays on his team. He knows the Peoria kids, and JD and co. should listen to him when he says what he wants. This may not happen til after they get rid of the interim tag, if they do at all. If they go off and win 10 of their next 11, I think the interim tag disappears and Payne gets the chance to tell management which players he wants to call up from Peoria.Leedog wrote:JD and Pleau still make personnel decisions. You're right on 4 of the five there, but Weaver has been our second best (maybe even best) defenseman the last month. And he's been solid all season.
I doubt he sits Brewer much, I've got a guess the call for his playing time is coming from higher then that and an interim coach isn't going to but heads with management that quickly.
This is a great day in Blues history, I truly believe Murray was on the cusp of doing irreparable damage to Perron (at least as a Blue) and Berglund….and I fear he would hold back other young players who may deserve a chance to play up here over scrubs like Jannsen and Winchester.
Too bad his first challenge is the Hawks, but I did state that I believe the team would win 8 or 9 of their first 10 once Murray was fired no matter who they put behind the bench and I still expect the same.

Put Kariya on IR, waive and buy out Sydor, waive Winchester. Get Armstrong up full time, recall Eller and Strachan.

You can't take the result of tonights game too harshly. He's only been coach less than 24 hours, the team still has Murray stink on them. If they win, great. If they lose, I'm not going to go calling for Payne's head. It's going to take a couple games, a couple of practices, for everyone to loosen up and play the way they're capable of playing.DaDitka wrote:glen a richter wrote: Weaver out, Sydor out, Crombeen out, Winchester out, Janssen out.

Those are some lofty expectations. I'm getting the feeling that people think that just because Murray is gone these guys are never going to lose again. If that's the case you're going to be calling for Payne's head before he even knows his players names.DaDitka wrote: Too bad his first challenge is the Hawks, but I did state that I believe the team would win 8 or 9 of their first 10 once Murray was fired no matter who they put behind the bench and I still expect the same.
I expect the team to be better, otherwise the problem is much worse than we thought, but let's not get too carried away.

I suppose it had to be done, but it stinks of letting the inmates run the asylum. Or rewarding the kids for sucking. Face it. They made the playoffs last year because Mason was lights out. They won close games. Since the O has come to life, the goalies have let in at least one softie each game. There is your dif. And AM is no more responsible for stopping the puck than George Bush is for global warming.

I don't see Brewer and Jackman losing many minutes played. I think a lot of those calls are coming from Davidson and Co. This whole organization has a hard-on for our crappy defense.glen a richter wrote:Brewer demoted to #3 d-man minutes (where he might actually be worth a damn... imagine that), Weaver out, Sydor out, Crombeen out, Winchester out, Janssen out.

Now I know I have been one of the people calling for Murray to be fired. I am aware that it is not very Christian like to want someone to lose there job especially at the holidays. That being said I am Jewish and "DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD!" "FREE AT LAST ALMIGHTY FREE AT LAST".
ps. I love the hockey hair in that photo of Payne.

Looks like in his later years he's had some run in's with the law:

Now THAT'S my style of coach!Aliases: Carl Payne, Davis Payne, David Payne, Payne Davis, Carl Davis, C.D. Payne, Carl the Great, Mr. Clean, Atomic Dog, White Fang, Psycho, J.J. Kincaid
Remarks: He wears contact lenses and is currently on prescription allergy medication. He is an avid reader, lover of dogs, and devotee of pornography. He favors western-style suits and is an alleged abuser of alcohol. Payne is known to have a violent temper and refer to himself in the third person.
CAUTION: Payne has a lengthy record of arrests for burglary, credit card fraud, armed robbery and animal cruelty. While in prison, Payne was suspected of murdering another inmate. He is currently a suspect in an armored car robbery and murder in Texas.

Re: Murray out, Payne in
Now, with Payne in, does the team play Murray's system tonight until Payne can have a couple of practices to teach them his system? Or, do they play a basic system and make some in game adjustments? How many practices and games does it usually take to get everyone on the same page?
Maybe now, Perron will sign here after this season.

I shouldn't make them sound as though they are true expectations. I just beleive they were so sick on Murray and want to prove that he was most of the problem. I think they will realy respond and play much harder. But it's not as if a new coach is going to make the roster more talented, and I understand that.
