Brewer on the block?
They just mentioned that the Bruins are rumored to be in the market for a D-man and that Brewer was a perfect fit. "On the Fly" is where I heard it.

Seriously, just get rid of him. There were a few times in yesterday's game where he and Jackman were caught on the ice together and it resulted in many scoring chances for Vancouver.

Pretty sure I'm on the extreme right of the bell curve in terms of liking Brewer on this forum. But, they'd be stupid not to take offers for him. I think we'll miss him more than people think. But, if Boston (or whomever) will part with a solid 20G scorer, I'd say trade him.

Re: Brewer on the block?
On the Fly has been talking for two weeks about a hot market for defensemen including Brewer. That said with Brewer's contract situation, and the number of defensemen available, my guess is a mid round pick.
Hell, if they give us a third round pick, we'll cover the air-fair.
No matter where you stand on Brewer, we're not making the playoffs and he walks in the offseason, so there is no reason not to trade him for anything.

Difficult situation. I'm not sure I would trade him for just anything. He is, after all, a NHL-caliber defenseman. Not a top defenseman by any means, but he's got to be worth more than a mid-round pick who may never crack an NHL lineup.

Well, his contract is up and he'll walk for nothing, so a mid round pick is a hell of a lot more. In the end, I could see him possibly generating as much as a second rounder considering how many teams are looking for a puck moving defensemen.

As depressed as I am about the way the season has gone, I'd consider this season a success if Brewer is traded.

You know the commercial where the fan sneaks into the locker room in EJ's bag?
Think we can pack Jacks and Boyes in Brewers bag?
We could have Cam carry the bags to the cab and then someone could push him in the trunk as well.
Could be on the best Blues seasons EVER!

Re: Brewer on the block?
take that C off his jersey and stop considering him a top defenseman. That would semi-solve this problem
and FTR: we need another forward who can skate as well as AMac and is creative with the puck.

Agreed....oh, and drop a couple mill off his deal.
That said.....he's been even WORSE then advertised the last two months. I believe the most recent tally is something like he's been on the ice for 16 of the last 21 to 23 (even strength, PP. and PK combined) goals against. I don't put much merit into the +/-, but that is a disturbing ratio.
Dude really started out strong to start the season, but I fear if we were to resign him...we'd get a lot more of what we've seen these last two months then what we saw the first half of the season.

Re: Brewer on the block?
Him being a UFA plays a factor. But, he has said that he does not want to be traded (and actually had a no-trade clause), and that he wants to finish his career here.
If we trade him, it is because his trade value is kind of high, and we think we can replace him with somebody cheaper this offseason. It isn't so we get something back for him before he bolts in the offseason.

Re: Brewer on the block?
By all means, yes, trade him. This should have been done four years ago when they re-signed him. At the time, they could have gotten another first round pick in the draft that produced Perron and Berglund...huge mistake at the time, I thought. But now, with the defensive depth improved, there is absolutely no reason not to trade him.
As someone said above, addition by subtraction. Anybody ever look up the Blues record with/without Brewer in the lineup over the last three years?

Re: Brewer on the block?
I don't have the numbers in front of me, but a couple years ago when we started off the 1st half of the season playing like ass, Brewer was in the lineup...and then Brewer got hurt and was lost for the season, that's when we went on that great run after January 1st and made the playoffs. That's the only time during Brewer's time here that we made the playoffs...and he didn't factor into the success that year at all.Carl Racki wrote:By all means, yes, trade him. Re: Brewer on the block?
He is supposedly the leader of this team or whatever, and while we as fans have no real idea what kind of leadership skills any player has, I do know what happens on the ice and with al of the streaky play, lack of 60 minutes of effort night after night, blown leads, etc... it seems to me that if he is indeed the leader of this team then he's not doing a good job.
It's time for this organization to turn the page on the Brewer era. The fans don't like him. His time as captain has produced horrid results. His play on the ice has been (for the most part) incredibly poor.
It's time to let go. Trade him for whatever you can get.
Make Backes the captain.

Re: Brewer on the block?
At this point a mid round pick is probably on the high side. I say if we get a bag of pucks and some used zamboni parts were good.
