I think Beukeboom will be part of another trade package including Boyes to get someone who can actually freaking score.

When N64 first showed up, I didn't think he was ready. Now I do.

It ought to be looked at this way:
The Blues gave up a 1st rounder, Erik Johnson, Jay McClement, and Eric Brewer and in return, received a 2nd and a 3rd rounder, Kevin Shattenkirk, Chris Stewart, and not Eric Brewer.

I am seriously laughing at the folks calling these trades signs of the Blues "rebuilding." The Blues had depth on defense. They lacked scoring up front. They traded some defensive depth, added younger defense, and got the scoring guy everyone has been saying they've been needing since Decemeber (in some cases since the off-season). This is called addressing needs - not "rebuilding." And the defense they traded wasn't playing anywhere near it's potential and neither of those two defenseman were part of the Blues playoff run in 2008.

Rebuilding would be trading Oshie, Berglund, Nikitin, Pietrangelo and bags of pucks for crappy players and tons of draft picks.

Every player involved in these two trades has talent of one kind or another - wasted, developing, offensive, defensive, whatever.

Heck, yes, the trade is a gamble, because there is always the chance EJ pulls his head out of his butt and starts playing the way someone with his size and skill should play. There is also the chance Shattenkirk proves to be the leader he has been most of the places he played before making the jump and the chance Stewart is the 30-goal scorer the Blues have been lacking. Both teams gambled. IMO, the Avs gambled to win in the future. The Blues gamble is to make the playoffs right now. If you are on a playoff run, you don't give up offensive-minded defenseman and a 30-goal guy for a checking center and a struggling defenseman.

He was drafted first overall! That's right. FIRST OVERALL!!!

Not a single word about how crappy he had been playing. And watching this game..... just watched EJ on a power play - 3 of the 4 times he got the puck - forehand-backhand-forehand with the puck. 4th time he still stick-handled before actually shooting. 2 of the 4 times should have been one-timers. Glad he's gone. Shattenkirk looked way better tonight.

That's pretty bad when a supposed scoring forward goes as the 1st overall pick, and fails to score a single playoff goal in his career.
