Nice to be able to win the close games, but you can't keep that up over a whole season (and post-season).

That said... HELL YEAH! :letsgoblues:

But the fact that they are proving they can win these tight, low-scoring games will help them if/when they make the playoffs.

I was 'bout to complain of the narrow victory but your post makes sense. We can't expect blowouts every game, namely 'cause the Blues don't seem to get them so often.

A win's a win, no matter what the margin is though.

Nice win.

Elliot was great.

Thornton wasn't.

I didn't care for the flow of the game for the most part, but 2 points is 2 points is 2 points and Shatdeuces had a great hit on Thornton.

Only getting to see the highlights on this one. Looks like Elliot had a great game, Perron was involved quite a bit, Jackman almost gave up a goal to Winchester of all people.. AND we got a GWG on the PEE PEE, so that's exciting!

Elliot was good but the D really stymied the Sharts offense for most of the night. Very few quality scoring chances given up last night.

Was brutal to watch. Just not a lot of chances or interesting action.

The Blues kept good pressure several times, which is encouraging.

I don't think the sharks are very good, honestly.

We need to figure out how to create better. Many times a guy is behind the net with his head up and time and no one is in position to take a pass. That has to be fixed.

I notice something related - puck carriers will be going for a skate behind the net and either not look behind them or not have anyone there - I think that reversal/misdirection is one of the toughest things to defend against, and we just NEVER do it, we always end up skating out the other end and looking to center it (more likely) passing it to the strong side dman for a boring play.

We cycle it backwards all the time. Oshie and Perron reverse back there often.

THe problem isn't looking, it's no one is in the space below the circles in front of the net waiting to bury something.

We're not quite talking about the same thing. I wish I had a video in mind with this happening. I don't mean cycle the puck back along the boards, I mean centering just before actually going behind the net with someone crashing the net, open to the possibility of that sudden centering pass.

I think we are talking about the same thing... that third forward is no where in a position to score. Maybe it's the "defense first" system, but there's a happy place where goals get scored frequently and our guys are scared of it or something.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Watch the Dallas Stars. They are really good at making the pass to someone breaking to the net as another goes behind the net.

Yup, you're right, that is one of the teams I see doing it a lot, and I see the Blues struggling to defend against it.

Everyone struggles to defend against it.

The point is that the goalie can't get across and get his angle fast enough. He's caught deep in his net protecting the post and you generally have half a net to shoot at clean.

We either aren't there to get it or take too long to get rid of it. I have seen the pass made several times in recent games... it just goes across the front of the net and slides to the half board cause no one is home.

Fortunately, one of the things the Blues' D-men do decently is tie up the guy skating in, waiting for that pass. And if that fails, Jackman will get there in time to cross check the guy in the back after he scores.
