I like pretty much everything. IPA's are my favorite style. I love trying new IPA's. Modus Hoperandi used to be my favorite, but I've found a few I like more than that like Union Jack.

When I go someplace like iTap or Flying Saucer, I usually get a Saisson Dupont or one of the Chimays. They aren't IPA's, but all are really really good Belgian beers.

Honestly, I drink basic beers when I drink, which isn't often. Maybe that's part of the problem. I really want to try the different kinds of beer out there, but I'm pretty ignorant on the subject.

Nothing wrong with basic beers. I drink Bud Light plenty. People like to rag on it, but whatever. It's drinkable IMO.

It's only been a couple years since I started drinking more than Bud Light and the like. I just started randomly buying 6 packs when at the grocery store and seeing what I liked. Also, places like Flying Saucer/iTAP/Bridge, etc., are good for branching out. The servers there are generally really knowledgeable and good at making recommendations.

Generally Labatt or Moosehead, preferably Moosehead. Nothing American or Mexican and never (except for Moosehead) anything that comes in a green bottle.

I did go to a microbrewery with some friends about a year ago and tried some different beers. One in particular tasted like what we imagined motor oil might taste like. We all hated it. Another was billed as what the original beer probably tasted like. After tasting it, we were wondering why people kept drinking beer. It had no qualities associated with anything resembling a modern day brew and frankly tasted fairly lame.

I once asked a guy I used to bowl with why he drank Coors Light (in huge amounts) when it quite literally tastes like rocky mountain pisswater. He said that he normally drinks Guinness but Coors Light is his go-to when he has to drive.

I'm all over the place. My favorites include:

Schlafly TIPA - Probably the best and most acclaimed beer to come out of St. Louis in a while. http://draftmag.com/beereditor/your-nex ... afly-tipa/
Ommegang Hennepin - A great Saison if you're into Belgians.
Beamish Irish Stout - I had it in Dublin 2 years ago and it's head and shoulders above Guinness. Unfortunately, it's not available in the US anymore.
Anchor Steam Beer - The California Common that started the whole craft beer revolution in the US.
Stone Smoked Porter - My wife's favorite beer, so we usually have plenty on hand. My favorite smoked beer.
König Ludwig Weiss - My favorite beer out of all the beers that I tried in Germany.
Fullers ESB - Had it on tap at their brewery outside of London and it has been in my regular rotation ever since. Best representation of the style.
Pizza Port Hop Ramen - A West Coast IPA with ramen noodles added to the mash. I tried this at their Carlsbad location for the only reason that it sounded weird. It was my favorite beer of the trip. I hope to clone this beer this summer.
Worthington's Red Shield - I probably drink more of their White Shield which is an IPA, but this pale ale really allows you to taste and appreciate the complexity of Burton upon Trent water.
Monteith's Original - A nice malty English pale ale from New Zealand.

I also have a beer that I just brewed that turned out really well. It's a single malt single hop session IPA. IBU's are in the 40's but it's only 3.9% abv. It's dry hopped so it has a great cascade hop aroma and bitterness. I've almost killed a 5 gallon keg of it over the past week and a half. I brewed it the day after the Miller trade so I coined it Miller 39 IPA.

My wife has a bunch of cousins around Kansas City and southwestern Missouri. At one of their weddings they had a pretty big reception and they had this awesome beer selection. I think it was Bud Light, Coors Light, Miller Light, Natural Light, and another one - maybe Busch Light? It was like beer nirvana!

Living in Denver now, I drink mostly Colorado craft beers. I like a lot of different styles, but I'm not too fond of Belgians or weiss beers. I do some homebrewing sometimes too, both beer and mead.

I enjoy a cold Bud Light or Bud Select. Sue me.

I also enjoy a number of the popular wheat beers... Blue Moon & Shock Top are always good. I had Tucher once...hated it...one of the worst beers I have ever had. Shock Top's Chocolate Wheat was good...I liked it a lot. But it's seasonal and I don't think it's on the shelves anymore.


I've recently started enjoying more stout beers as well... we got a six pack of Goose Island's Bourbon County...which was like $40. But it was pretty damn good.


I like New Holland's Dragon's Milk as well...similar to Bourbon County.


4 Hands has some good stuff...their Chocolate Milk Stout is good. One of my wife's favorite beers.


Left Hand Brewery was at Global Brew in Edwardsville a month or so ago, and they have a nitro milk stout that was coffee infused...it was ok. I'm not a coffee guy...I can see it really appealing to those that love coffee though.

Left Hand Nitro is one of my favorites, which is funny because I don't like coffee. I got one of my friends to try it the other day, and he just thought it was ok. I would buy it all the damn time if it wasn't $10 a 6-pack.

Never had Bourbon County. I'm not real big on stouts, but I might try to find that somewhere. Goose Island has several "sub-lines" (for lack of better phrase) that are really good. Matilda and Sophie are my favorites.

My friend got into brewing and gave us some samples of the stuff he was making. Generally pretty good, it got better the more he made. The first one sucked pretty badly, but that was his first try so it was understandable. Anyway, he was looking through a catalog one day and came across one called Novacaine which took about a year to be ready and had an alcohol content of something like 10-12%, thereabouts. He flatly refused to make it, mainly because he would be using up a carboy for way too long, but I guess also because he didn't want anyone getting piss drunk off one bottle of his home brewed suds.

I wasn't big on stouts either, but my wife was into them so she usually had some in the fridge. The more I sampled them, the more I started to like them. It took me a bit, but I acquired a taste for them.

I enjoy Leinkeugel's Summer Shandy as well. That should be on the shelves soon.

I like Land Shark in the summer as well. Tastes good on a hot day by the pool or lake.

Way back in the day, I remember a lemon beer called One Eyed Jack. It had a bee on the label. I got that a handful of times when I was around 21-22. I remember liking it...haven't had it since...haven't seen it though either.

In college, I was a fan of Honey Brown and Rolling Rock. Both were affordable, without being considered "cheap" beer...at least not to me anyway. When I bought my own beer, I bought Honey Brown usually. Kegger parties would have the Bud Lights and whatnot...which was fine.

After winning the rec league intramural roller hockey championship at SIUC, our team had a party at a teammate's place. They had a keg of Bud Dry. I had way too much of it and lost it all in my dorm sink later that night. It clogged the sink. I immediately left and went to my girlfriend's dorm and left my roommate with the sink full of puke (yeah, yeah...that was a dick thing to do...but I was drunk). For the reset of the semester, whenever we'd run the sink, it would drain real slow and you could see bits of puke float up from the drain. It was disgusting. I haven't had Bud Dry since.
