Best thing about this latest abortion of a PP is one of the Sharks hit his own teammate in the face with the puck.

You listen to the NBC post game, the Sharks scored 4 on themselves out of sheer benevolence.

Ugliest 2-goal playoff win I've ever seen! But I'll take it! The Blues go home tied, with a chance to go ahead in the series!

If the power play wasn’t a complete bucket of suck this team would be unbeatable. Well either way the objective should have been to split the first two, and split they did. Let’s take care of business at home now.

So who still wants to fire Van Ryn? I'm sure Berube had some input, but essentially pushing Petro to the 3rd pairing, moving Parayko and Dunn to the 1st PP unit, Parayko picking up the #1 d-man minutes following the Petro gaff - it was basically "benching" the captain, but not completely and the team responded. San Jose had something like 1 shot for about 20 minutes of game time following Petro's demotion.
Much better play overall with the forwards staying tighter to the defense and being in position to cover when San Jose pressure on defenseman limited where the d could move the puck.
'
12 of the 18 skaters got a point tonight.
Heard a comment on the radio, supposedly from Berube, as to why Parayko isn't on the first power play unit. He supposedly needs to have better footwork. Well, his footwork is good enough that Team Canada immediately puts him the #1 PP as the RD whenever he plays for them, regardless of the coaching staff. His stickwork, speed which which he moves the puck, actual foot speed and shot are all things Pietrangelo lacks. So, hopefully, moving forward, Parayko will stay on that #1 unit. I found it interesting when the 2nd period started, 91 wound up with a quality shot after a series of interchanges with Parayko involving skating and passing to free up space. Something we never see at all from Pietrangelo when he's manning that point. Yes, Parayko has been guilty of the same type of turnover one time awhile ago, but his skill set is more suited to that PP point - like MacInnis - than Pietrangelo.
Hope they keep of this style of play and don't have the inevitable hometown let down.

Pietrangelo really isn't that great in the whole scheme of things, and anything that can help get Tarasenko going is crucial if they're going to advance to to the Finals. The Sharks scorers are going to score and our top line needs to at least match that so the series winds up as a contest of whose secondary scoring can be more clutch.
Game 2 nonwithstanding, if Couture, Maier, Thornton and the like are all scoring in buckets and we're depending on guys like Robert Bortuzzo to break ties then the rest of the series could end up proving game 2 to be a fluke. The guys who should be scoring should be scoring, it's really simple. In game 3 I want to see Tarasenko take over and score a hattie. They need to let the Sharks know that our top line can score too.

I loved it for at least couple of reasons - Sunny got rewarded for playing a solid game and Steener got himself a really nice assist. He played a good game and was fun to see him get creative on that rush and set up Sunny for the goal. Of course, it also basically iced the game for the Blues, so it was a huge goal in that regard, as well.Portland Blues wrote:That last goal of ours was like a slow motion car crash.

Key win for Bounce-Back Binnington. He should have had Couture's 2nd goal, though.
But hey, GAA and SV% are really meaningless at this point. All that matters is the W, and they got that. I think more than anything, this game shows the Blues what type of game they need to play to be successful- stop getting out of position to make the big hit and "intimidate," just play your own game that got you to this point.
Now on to St. Louis. Hopefully the Blues have better luck at home than their record shows.
