GDT #14: Blues @ Coyotes | 8:00 pm CT | FSMW, 101 ESPN

Post by theohall »

THE SERIES SO FAR
Feb. 2: Blues 4, Coyotes 3
Justin Faulk scored what could stand as the goal of the year when he danced through the offensive zone and slid the puck five-hole past goalie Darcy Kuemper. Mike Hoffman, Vince Dunn and Ryan O'Reilly also scored and Jordan Binnington made 32 saves to extend the Blues' winning streak for four games.

Feb. 4: Coyotes 4, Blues 3
The Arizona Coyotes had a 3-0 lead before Mike Hoffman finally scored for St. Louis with less than four minutes to go in regulation. The Blues would get another goal from Hoffman and one from Ryan O'Reilly in a late rally, which ultimately fell short. Coyotes goalie Antti Raanta made 40 saves in Arizona's first road win of the season.

Feb. 6: Coyotes 3, Blues 1
Jakob Chychrun scored two goals, Clayton Keller had a goal and an assist and Darcy Kuemper made 24 saves in a 3-1 win for the Arizona Coyotes. It was the first time this season the Blues lost two straight. Robert Thomas scored the Blues' only goal before leaving in the first period with a broken thumb.

Feb. 8: Coyotes 4, Blues 3 (SO)
The Blues were one second away from securing two points at home against the Coyotes, but Chesterfield native Clayton Keller scored the latest game-tying goal in Arizona / Winnipeg history. Ryan O'Reilly scored two goals in regulation, but the Coyotes won their third straight against the Blues.

THEY SAID IT
"We're not looking to underestimate this team. It's a good team that made the playoffs last year... It's been a good challenge for us, but we're looking at this as another chance to go in their building and try to close some games out." - Robert Bortuzzo, on leaving for a three-game road trip in Arizona

"It's unique for sure, playing a team this many times in a row. You get a feel for each other. It's a different experience... We want to win, we want these points. We're going to come and hopefully have a good weekend here in the desert. " - Jordan Binnington on continuing a seven-game series against Arizona

BLUE NOTES
The Blues and Coyotes have met in a seven-game series once before - in the first round of the 1999 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Blues trailed the series 3-1 and would win the series in Game 7 thanks to an overtime game-winner from Pierre Turgeon... Jordan Binnington posted a 21-save shutout in his only career start in Arizona... The Blues have averaged 3.60 goals per game on the road this season, which ranks third overall in the League.

Win or go home boys. After taking a 1-0 series lead we've dropped three straight on the verge of elimination.

Time to put up or shut up.

Blues 4
Coyotes 2

Kyrou gets back on the board with a goal tonight.

Good 1st Period by The Blues. They're skating better from the start, and they've tightened up their gaps on defence. They seem to have more energy. They looked a lot better on the power play, as well, with crisp passing and some really good shots. They were forming screens too. Things are looking up.

I think Schwarz could have gotten off, he was on his way to the bench when they kept it in our zone, might as well have finished skating and changed.

Wow! The Blues ran out of gas near the end of the period. I hope they come back strong in The 3rd.

Good to see The Blues stay strong at the end and not wilt and cave-in at the end. Excellent win. Good things coming, methinks! Kyrou and Faulk played well. So did O'Reilly and Binnington.

It seems like it’s been months since the last game against someone other than Arizona. Jesus, this is one weird season.

No. But, after the game, in his interview, Berube said he was confident that Sundqvist would be alright, and probably return next game.

Oh, cool. I thought we weren't allowed to win against Arizona. Apparently we can. Good to know.
